Well I have been with Plusnet for the last year.
My current deal was £2.50 a month and £12.99 landline.(saver price) , plus a £70 cheque. So total cost for year, £30+ £158 - £70 = £115.88 for year.
My broadband was going up to £9.99 a month plus £15.49 landline (saver).
So a total of £305.76 over 12 month period.
Did a bit of research with other providers and called Plusnet up
The deal I got from them this time was FREE broadband, £15.49 landline (saver) and a £75 cheque. When all added up I saved £5.00 on last years price.
So saving £194.88 if I had not bothered calling.
I call that a result! :T:T:T:TThe more I live, the more I learn.

Just added up my savings in the last 6 months on various renewal items - saved well over £850 vs the initial renewal quotes !!
Best was Sky - now paying ~£258 pa for a TV package listed @ £800+ pa:T- 3rd year on the trot I've squeeezed a deal out of Sky.
But also made savings on already good prices on insurance renewals, broadband and phone.
It's staggering (and quite depressing) to think that others are foregoing these types of savings because they can't be bothered to spend a couple of hours PER YEAR on the phone and various search engines.0 -
Sky are working hard to keep custom away from rivals it seems. I have discounts across all platforms (TV, Broadband, Phone).
Over the year, my total discounts are £457.44 plus I get Sky Go Extra for free with Multiscreen (which anyone can get of course). Throw in the £5 a month saving for that and the total would be £517.44.
Trick is to be willing to go all the way to cancelling. Once, when they increased their prices, I even cancelled. I then called back a few days later saying "I have cancelled, but as I have been a loyal customer and I have no problems with Sky apart from the price, I am giving you 1 more chance to come up with something that will make me happy!" - that's when they came up with another £200+ savings, on top of what I already had running! and that all started as they were increasing my prices by £4 a month, £48 a year.....so I ended up much better off.
Also, if you don't like what you hear, tell them you are going to speak to BT/Virgin (or whoever) and that you will come back to them. Then call them back a few days later - as the deals they have in front of them change as well.......0 -
For the last couple of years I've got a quote for car insurance on one of the comparison sites and Admiral (my current insurer) have matched/beaten it by £10, although I believe that most of the quotes have been from companies under the same umbrella (e.g. Diamond, Elephant). Saved over £230 this year on the renewal price, with minimal effort.
Less successful with Sky this year - only £10 off for 12 months, they just weren't budging for me.November GC: £50.55/£130. October GC: £72.60/£150
September GC: £131.27/£170. July GC: £62.48/£80. May GC: £135.00/£150
April GC: £201.91/£140. March GC: £194.98/£200. January GC: £111.41/£200.
December GC: £67.45/£80. Nov GC: £159.32/£220. October GC: £208.07/£250.0 -
I was all set to haggle again with BT this year. But when I phoned up, they just offered me the same discount as last year. It's a bit difficult to haggle when they give in before you even ask.If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.0 -
I have haggled with sky and got a really good deal0

We have haggled with Sky, got a good deal on superfast broadband, a good deal on AA full recovery services for 2, haggled S W water down to £15 PCM. Got renewal quote from car insurer, as usual about £75 more than last year. Got few price comparison quotes then haggled our current insurers to price match then another £10 off if I paid over phone. Haggled a last minute deal on Dartmoor hotel all inclusive break.
