switching bank accounts- discharged BR

Hi,

Just wanted to know if any discharged bankrupts on benefits been able to switch to a current account, pref with small o/d facility?

I'm receiving Carer's Allowance, so been hard to find a job that fits in with my caring duties, but thought I would ask the question before Bank hits my credit score again with searches

Thanks

Unfortunately until the BR is off your credit files you will find it very difficult to upgrade from a basic to a current account.

There has been a couple of success's on the board over the years but they are very far and few between.

How long since you have been dischaged? Have you cleaned up your files?

It would be worth you considering getting a Credit Union account so you can put a couple of pounds away and then if you have an emergency they do loans based on ability to pay back. They are community based and are fab.
A few examples of CU's for you

As you can see they vary from place to place but they are great as an extra backup.

  • Only been discharged a couple of months, and in process in cleaning up credit file- Barclays & Sainsburys being awkward but I'll try the CU's
    Many thanks
  • We opened one with Nationwide this year with no problem. Chequebook but no OD.

Is the bankruptcy still on your credit file? Any defaults still? I didn't think nationwide would touch anyone with a discharged bankruptcy unless it was flex basic?
  • Hi yes. BR on file and 2 unsatisfied defaults. Maybe I was just lucky!
