I have just changed from a gas grill to an electric one . I used to line the grill pan with foil to keep it clean and it made it easy to chuck away fat .
The new grill says not to use foil so I'm wondering if anyone can recommend anything to line it or keep it clean .
I have tried the fat trappers from Lakeland but they are expensive .

£1 shop have liners, I think there are 2 in a pack but they are washable.
I use them for my baking.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
I have an electric grill/oven and I used to always use foil to catch the fat, but lately I've been using a foil tray with ridges for smaller pieces of food the fat drains into the tray and it works well and is easily cleaned. I don't know why they would say not to use foil though.#6 of the SKI-ers Club :j

I use foil.. if changed regularly its fine.. it is when it gets a build up of fat it can burst into flames.. the foil itself is flammable but people assume it is not as it is metal.
however.. oven liner/Teflon things are maybe less dangerous but would still need to be cleaned just as often due to the fat they collect.. Or you could simply wash your grill pan after every use like you would any other pan or plate!LB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0 -
The best method by far is to give it a quick wash after each use. If you do it every time it will clean easily - it's when the fat/dirt gets heated multiple times that it gets welded on.Shrinking my mortgage!

Foil wouldn't be an issue if you're careful but as has been said it could catch fire and it shouldn't come into contact with the elements.
I put my grill pan through the dishwasher to clean it.0 -
Thanks for the replies everyone , I do clean the grill after every use but I did find it handy to use the foil as it was easy to peel up and chuck away most of the fat rather than trying to scrape it out or it ending up clogging pipes .
I did use the foil when I got the new grill but it did seem to make the grill smoke and then I read the instruction book and it said not to use it .0 -
I think that the idea is the heat would reflect back into the element if you used foil. I've used heavy duty black oven liner sheets in my grill pan and the shelves below for a few years now. So easy to wash and help to keep your oven clean when cooking things like pizza.
(Just cut to size if you want to line your grill pan, I've cut slits at each corner so that it sits comfortably)
The beautiful thing about learning is nobody can take it away from you.
Thanks to everyone who contributes to this wonderful forum. I'm very grateful for the guidance and friendliness that I always receive from you.

I've always used foil in electric grills. Never had a problem but I do throw the foil away after each use.You can pick your friends and you can pick your nose but you can't pick your friend's nose.0

If I'm grilling fatty food, as well as lining the pan with foil, I put a couple of slices of bread in.
This catches the fat and then I break it up for the birds.0
