Does Old Alcohol Keep

Options
I was just cleaning out my sideboard in readiness for the Christmas drinks and found two bottles of wine, about a quarter of a bottle in each, a bottle of sherry and a bottle of Pimms. The Pimms and the sherry were also about one quarter full.

I threw away the wine but I was wondering if it was necessary to throw away the other bottles as well.

A few things would affect how well they keep.

The alcohol & sugar level, and how much air has been allowed to get to the liquid.

The wine, if tightly sealed may have been OK for a few days but then the flavour would become a bit lifeless and musty and eventually turn to vinegar.

I bet the sherry tastes absolutely fine , and so will the Pimms probably. Neither will do you any harm, even if they don't taste their very best, so you may as well give them a try.

For future reference, I pour 'old' wine on to my compost heap, I reckon it's organic so must help the process. Seems better than pouring it down the drain... (If you'd caught it sooner it can be made into ice cubes handy for adding to casseroles, gravy etc.)
Thanks for the Pimms reference. I've got some Austins (Aldi/Lidl version) which was opened last summer. Now I'm wondering if I can use it in something like trifle for Christmas...?

We use a vacuvin in fortified drinks - madeira that I use for risotto, vermouth, port, Pimms and the campari. It does keep better. I suspect that Pimms that old wouldn't taste too fresh.

I suppose it depends partly on how discerning you are. I don't drink very much, so what i do have I like to enjoy!
