debt free Christmas?

This time of the year and specifically this week has always been a real spending black spot for me. Normally I would be spending like crazy through sheer disorganisation and preparation
This year is different. I have used my CC for some online purchased but have set up DD's to clear these. Normally I would have had no repayment plan in mind. I have also managed to keep up with my payments which I am pleased about.

How is everyone doing this month? It's definitely a challenge to not slip back into my old habits. My next hurdle will be the period between Christmas and New Year as this is when I am off work and the sales start!!!!

I am aiming to pay off at least 18k this year so there really is no room for error!!

Hope you are all enjoying the festive season.

Well done. Well not being debt free I have to keep a lid on my spending. I've spent within my budget on presents and I only have 2 presents left to buy, so I think I've done quite well! Bought no new xmas decs as I didn't need any and I've also bought advanced train tickets for travelling to see my family around the Christmas time too, saving me a lot of money.

Keep up the will power around the sales, I'm going to do the same!
  • Thanks guys. my battle with the scales is still ongoing but I think I will pick that one up again in January! It can be my new focus - SCALES not sales.
  • Nice one Chester!

I downloaded YNAB in late September, so I had budgeted for Christmas out of that. I was strict, added in my spending as I did it, and this is the first year in I-dont'-know-how-long that I have managed to not go bonkers with it all and end up paying it back by Easter.

    It's a good feeling!

  • Hi Chester81, there is a thread in the challenges section called 'debt free by xmas 16'. Why don't you come and join in? You don't have to clear all your debt just set a target for the year. I cleared 25k last year, which is more than I would have done without the challenge and look set to be debt free this year.
