Advice on how to stick out a bad job

Hi everyone :)

The title says it all really! I've been working in an office for 18 months and have been told by my manager that some of my colleagues aren't happy with my work, he thinks I don't fit into the team and I'm not suited to my job. He suggested I should look for another job  (I haven't been kicked out...yet).

It came as a shock to me as I had no idea the team felt this way  Now I feel like they don't want me there and I don't want to be there. The problem is, my OH and I are buying a house and will be hopefully moving in/getting a mortgage in the next 3-4 months, so I have to try and stick it out until the mortgage is approved :(

Any advice please? At the moment I'm just thinking in 2 weeks it will be Christmas and I can chill out for a bit.

TIA!

  • Not happy with your work in what way? Considering you've been there 18 months and had no idea, how do they feel you don't fit in?

Is it something you can fix? Like if it were just that they feel you've made too many mistakes you'd just need to double check work. If they feel you, for example, talked too much or constantly spoke about an interest none of the office cared about then you could just cut down on that. Or the opposite and they feel you don't talk enough, you could try and talk more to them.

It may be that your personality is just very different and it's not something you can change to fit in, but it could also be something that you can change.

If you feel really pushed out now and like you want to escape anyway you may as well ask them to explain in what way. Either you'll leave anyway when you get a chance or you can do something about it and find it all works out in this job. Once you know exactly what it is it may be something you can learn from. Afterall, you don't know if it's something that could keep happening in each job. It may not be, but at least you'll know.
  • It's Christmas time and people can say strange things so you might find you have to do some discounting for it.

Don't do anything rash. 18 months is quite some today by today's standards.

I didn't think this works but it does, if you have a lunch or break, walk of the premises. Went from mardie to calm one time when something similar happened only couple of weeks back.

You ain't missed till your gone.

I cant really help with the situation, its difficult when you do not know what the problem is. Although in saying that, I can think of times where I have worked with people I just did not like. There was no reason for it, they did nothing wrong, I just did not take to them. But I was always polite and got on with the job, I just kept my distance.

Going to your Mortgage, there are some lenders who only need you to have a job offer or 1 months payslips. You will obviously have less options but there should still be high street lenders/rates available to you even if you do leave.

Keep a countdown to next payday and give yourself something to look forwards to whether it's immediate or long term like a holiday. As long as it's not your work itself just try your best

  • So say you got a mortgage, how would you pay it IF they decide to part company with you?
Do you think you will find another job easily?
I just wondering whether having such a large millstone around your neck would help whilst changing jobs? Would it be better to switch jobs and then apply for a mortgage in 6- 8 months?
