Utilities when Repossessed, more help please!

Hi again... we contacted EON regarding the date our property will be repossessed and that we will be moving out on that date. We asked what will happen to our utilities and we just had the following reply, " Your account will remain open until the property is sold and you'll continue to be billed until the property is sold and ownership change is completed". Is this correct? We thought we would only be responsible until the repossession date? Many thanks in advance.

once it is repossessed , you are no longer living there , the bank/building society own the property until they sell it off .

    that is my opinion.

you need to give them a final reading and inform them that "x" is the new owner

    And a general observation.

Usually in the T&Cs of most contracts, there is a clause which states the contract is immediately voided in the event of bankruptcy.

Good morning KITTENPOP9 I'm sorry you're in this situation.

I'll give the information from us as clearly as I can, as I don't want to confuse the situation.

If your home has been repossessed, you’ll still be responsible for paying the energy bill until it’s sold by your bank. The asset management company your bank appoints to manage the repossession and sale will often turn off the power and gas at the meter – so very little energy should be used after you move out.

When you let us know about the repossession, we’ll need to take the following information from you:

    • The name of the asset management company appointed by your bank,
    • The contact details for the asset management company,
    • Up to date readings from your electricity and, or gas meters,
    • Your new forwarding address and contact details.
Unless the asset management company contacts us to take full control of your account, it will remain in your name until a sale is completed. We’ll then arrange for a final bill to be sent to you which you’ll need to pay in full.

I hope this is clear for you, however, as Cobalt77 says in event of bankruptcy things are slightly different and we have team here that will help deal with closing the account for you.

    Thank you

  • Thank you for your reply but we have been given very different advice from Shelter, CAB and Eon themselves! Here is the email we received from Eon Customer Services a couple of days ago:

"I'm very sorry to hear that your house is being repossessed.
I've made a note of the date you're moving out so that your account will be closed on ******.
Please reply to this email on the day of your move with your final meter readings. We will then produce an accurate final bill which you will be able to view online within 24 hours."

We had pretty much the same advice from Shelter and also CAB.
