Been looking to get (probably) a Playstation 4 for a while but was wondering... is an online subscription a must to get the most out of games? or is single player offline gaming OK?
Have a real hatred that everything these days seems to require a monthly subscription.
Thanks

Depends on what kind of games do you prefer? There's plenty of single player titles, sometimes with optional multiplayer, and there's an equal amount of multiplayer only games.
Also, even if you don't like multiplayer at all, it's still worth having the subscription as it comes with a couple of free games every month. So a constant supply of games for a smudge over £3/month.0 -
There's a fair amount of "offline" games with a reasonable campaign, stuff like Fallout, Last of Us, Uncharted for example all concentrate on single player experience. You can certainly live without the Playstation Plus subscription, not so much if you're a Call of Duty gamer or if you want to play something like Battlefront but for campaigns you're good without it.Retired member - fed up with the general tone of the place.0

With you OP, I have a PS3 n Xbox360 but only play single player games.
One thing I miss about the PS2, is 2 or more player games where you can invite a couple of friends around to enjoy the odd game together.
The idea of needing 2 consoles, 2 televisions or online playing from separate homes altogether, does kind of mar the thrill of enjoying the odd game together in the same room.
The PS3 does have one or two games that allow two player modes in the same room, but they are seriously limited in comparison to the good old days.:A:dance:1+1+1=1:dance::A

It depends if your into playing online or not. Buy the PS4 and I'm sure you can buy say a 1 month subscription so you can at least give the online aspect a try. It isn't for everyone.
It doesn't have to be a monthly subscription, you can buy a years subscription for £33 from cdkeys if you can afford it.0 -

There's actually quite a lot of games on Ps4 with co-op/2 player/split-screen: Fifa, NBA, NHL, UFC, Lego games, Knack, Little Big Planet, Diablo 3, Injustice, Mortal Kombat, Trine, Borderlands, Dead Nation, Plants vs Zombies, Helldivers, Nidhogg, PixelJunk, Minecraft, Disney Infinity, Call of Duty, ust Dance, Resident Evil, Magicka, Rayman legends, OlliOlli, Secret Ponchos, Skylanders, Towerfall, Star Wars Battlefront, Trials Fusion, Wrestlemania, WRC5, Ride and many more.
Some of them even support up to 4 players0 -
I've owned a PS4 since day 1 and have always just played the single-player games (currently 35 hours into Fallout 4 and only just scratched the surface).
So, you definitely don't need to be 'online'.
However, I've signed up to PS+ anyway, primarily for the 'free' games each month. Well worth it, especially as the price is often discounted on CDKeys or similar sites.0 -
I have only used it GTA5 online, if they kept the multiplayer for Assassins Creed it would be for this also.
I have only downloaded 2 'free' games - Injustice Gods Amoung Us and Infamous First Light.0
