Demotion / Forced change of job role

I won't go in to too much details, but I am a full time employee over two years of service working in a supervisory job role.
I have had nothing but positive annual reviews.
I have been informed from a trusted source that the company is currently looking into changing my department, hours and title.
This is effetely a large demotion, my title is of a skilled professional, after the change I will be in a typically unskilled role.
Can they do this?
What will happen if I refuse?
Will my pay be affected?

I used to work for a large insurance company. They merged with another company and were making redundancies.
My options were to accept redundancy or take a demotion. My wages were frozen, so I would not have seen any pay rises until the wage for that position had increased in line with the position I had (which would have been about 3-5 years).
I took the redundnacy and left.
So my understanding is that they can not just move your job without your agreement unless the job will no longer exist in which case you would need to be offered redundancy as an alternative.I am a Mortgage AdviserYou should note that this site doesn't check my status as a mortgage adviser, so you need to take my word for it. Wait until you have the actual notification from the company rather than info from a "trusted source ". You can then see if you have a case.If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0

Do nothing until informed officially. The "trusted source" may have an agenda.Don’t be a can’t, be a can.0
