'Fit note' advice please

Can anyone give any advice please? My dp suffers from fits and blackouts. He started a new job & they knew about them upfront. He suffered one fit at work but because of the warning he gets he managed to remove himself from the warehouse environment first. The company have today contacted him & told him he's not to return to the job without a note from the GP saying he's fit to work. He has contacted our GP several times & the answer is always the same. The fit notes nowadays only say no you're not fit to work or you are fit to work if they make certain adaptions. There is no option if you're fit to work, they just don't issue you a note!

Does anyone have any experience with this please? It's 2 weeks before Christmas and we can't afford for him to lose his job.

Thanks x

  • I would have thought either the doctor does a fit note and states he is fit to work as long as he is allowed breaks/ is allowed to leave and get to a safe place when he feels a for coming on. Alternatively can the doctor write a letter to the employer stating this? (Although you might have to pay for a letter).
You'd think it really wouldn't be that difficult wouldn't you really :(
I don't know if something like an epilepsy charity is able to provide support and guidance to appease work/ tell you how to approach things?
I hope you get it sorted soon, its sounds ridiculously frustrating.

How long has he been off work, didn't they require a fit note for his absence? He needs to make an appointment to see his GP and request a letter, this could explain his condition and how it effects your partner and recovery timescales, this will be done on a 'private' basis so there maybe a charge.
Has his employer completed a risk assessment, or put any reasonable adjustments into place for him?

Doctors can write a letter but some surgeries charge. What's the cause of the blackouts? Have you been in touch with STARS (Google stars syncope)

This is one for occupational health (with input from the GP). He needs to contact them to make a referral for a consultation as not much can be done otherwise.

All thats needed is for a fit note to be issued and instead of the "unfit for work" box being ticked, the "may be fit for work" box is ticked and advice given.
Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..
