cost of removing seborrhoic warts

My private health insurer has agreed to pay for this.

It's something that is due to be done in 1 visit - ie consultation and treatment at that same visit. That is the norm AFAIK and what I have personally had before now.

...and then I moved and this particular hospital are splitting this visit into two parts:
1. consultation
2. treatment

:mad::mad:

My insurer has a maximum price limit they will cover. I have checked online for the pricelist that should be up there for private hospitals and cant find the price for this particular procedure.

1. Its a BMI hospital - not a Nuffield one. But I suspect both lots charge much the same as each other.

2. I am obviously concerned that having this visit split into two separate visits will mean they charge more for it.

Yep...I've tried ringing them (and then doing a follow-up phone call saying that I've not had the phonecall back yet I was promised) before the 2nd half of the visit (ie the 2nd visit) and asking the price. Yep...I've tried looking online and cant find the price for this specific procedure anywhere.

I know this is supposed to be a very cheap procedure and well within the price limit my insurer states is their maximum. But I'm obviously concerned whether it will be - particularly in view of the fact the hospital has chosen to do this in two separate visits (rather than the normal one - ie where consultation and treatment would be done in one visit).

Has anyone recently had this sort of treatment at a private hospital - whether paid for by themselves or paid for by a private health care insurer?

If so - how much was it please?

  • No I haven't had this treatment but something fairly similar.
I might be a bit cynical (or paranoid) but I do think that sometimes a cost quoted for a procedure under health insurance seems to come in with a higher price tag than when you ask for a cost for yourself as an individual.
Not much help but just a thought.
  • My suspicions would tend to tally with yours - ie that these private insurers get charged more.

Obviously, it may be the case that my insurer is emphasising what their limit is in order to have their clients make it plain that there IS a limit (ie in order to deter these private hospitals from whacking on a premium to them iyswim).

Well - I've covered myself - by sending an email to the hospital confirming I will be at the 2nd half of all this - BUT subject to being told the price in advance in writing. I don't want to turn up, have this and find a letter from my insurer later saying "Treatment cost our limit + £x that you are to pay personally".

Surely you would need to sign the treatment form, which would detail the costs, before you go in for the treatment? Or can they spring extra expenses on you afterwards?

  • No mention on any form to date of the cost.

They've come back at me now with an answer to my query - £650.

Whew! Expensive for something so minor - but within the limit my insurer will pay for. So that's sorted then - well it will be when I have the second half of my visit so to say.
  • Hey lets hope the procedure is simple, successful and pain free !
