Informal chat after an interview

Hello
A friend of mine had a job interview last week. They have invited him back for an informal chat. Could this just be a chance for them to confirm they like the person and will make an appointment to the post?

Would have thought so.
Probably also arrange hours and role your friend will play.
Cant be bad thing as he would have been rejected after interview.0 -

Likely, but do the pre-interview mental drill anyway.
In case someone else needs to form an opinion.
Also have the office protocol, pay, leave & tea club questions ready to go.
Best of luck!0 -
I had that recently. Turned out it was a sort of finalising decision, and also asking me directly and getting a direct answer as to whether I would be taking the job (they knew I had another interview next day).
As it turned out, they were also doing this because they had 'recruitment issues' and wanted to be sure I would take the job, hence doing it face to face. Sadly, the 'recruitment issues' were actually 'retention issues' due to other 'issues' and I'm now part of that statistic.
I do hope it is a better situation for your friend, sounds like they will know very soon. Hardly going to invite them back to go 'haha you never got the job'!!0 -
I think they're generally positive. I had one recently where I'd interviewed for a role a department was desperate to fill but it was slightly outside of my skillset (I had design experience rather than infrastructure maintenance experience).
The departmental head invited me for coffee to discuss the role and get to know me personally a bit.
Unfortunately for myself an external candidate interviewed at the same time who ticked all the boxes so the role went to him, I was told before this chat it was more or less neck-a-neck despite his advantages in the CV department.
At the time I was disappointed because I had my heart set on the progression and thought I may have come across badly in the chat. I found out later however that they liked me so much they'd actually requested to make another position so I could have a developmental role but it was vetoed by the business.
I don't think they'd bother with the post interview informal unless they were genuinely interested.0 -

We did that once. It was a final choice between 2 applicants and it was a difficult decision. By calling them back in there was the opportunity to speak to each of them in a less 'formal' environment and, hopefully, see them acting more naturally. It certainly helped for us, and the person we chose stayed with us for at least 10 years so we must have made a good impression too.0 -
Sometimes this happens if they're offering the job to someone else but might have another opening.0

I would wear a suit anyway, even though they said informal0
