Default - length of time on file (Scotland)

I have been reading about defaults and how long they stay on a credit file. My understanding was that it will remain for 6 years after the default date. However, I have read that in Scotland this might be 5 years?

Is this correct?

If so, what is the definition of it being in Scotland. My address now, my address at the time of the default, the companies address, the credit reference agencies address etc?

A default will remain on your credit file for 6 years regardless of where you live in the UK. The 5 years relates to how long you can be pursued for certain debts such as credit cards and loans through court in Scotland if you still live there. If there has been 5 years or more with no payment, written acknowledgement or decree the debt will be extinguished and the creditor will no longer be able to recover the money.
