Lowell 'Prove It'

My son sent a prove it letter to Lowell 7 days ago, for an account for a well known doorstep lender.
He had a generated reply today, that was strange at best.
It stated that Lowell would not be pursuing him for the debt, and that they were closing the case, they are sure that he owes the debt, will not be removing the Default, and will not enter into any further correspondence regarding this account?
Any ideas???????

'We Consider that there is sufficient evidence to confirm your liability for this debt and that the balance outstanding is due and owing. However, with a view to resolving this matter quickly, and simply, we have decided to take no further action to recover this balance and will close your account,.
'We are not prepared to remove the Default registered with the credit reference agencies in respect of this account as we consider that this data remains correct and accurate'.
'Should we receive any similar correspondence from you regarding this account, we will not be providing a response'.
Clear as mud!!!!!!!!!
I assume as they have only owned the account for a couple of weeks, they have in fact not issued any Default?0 -
Hmmm, never seen that exact wording from Lowell before.
Leaves you in a bit of a no mans land really, how much was the debt for ?
They seem to be saying its owed, and we can prove it, but we can't be arsed too ?I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards. Only £140. Its been passed around the DCA's a few times. My guess is its not worth them doing the detective work for the sum outstanding. Will probably get sold on, then he can start the cat & mouse game again?0

Bit of a shame really, as any other accounts he's had with Lowell, they have always offered a 50% full and final, with credit file marked accordingly, if they have insufficient info.0

Is the account his, and the default details correct?
If so then yes, probably not worth pushing the issue.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB

Yes the account is his. We always do a prove it letter first, just to see how much original account info they hold, hoping to generate a full and final reduction.
Not sure if a Default has been issued along the way, as at this stage , with the amount of overall debt owing, we can challenge that at a later date.
Its all about keeping the wolf from the door at mo.0
