ex-minister Steve Webb admits bad decision

I'm in the same situation.
After reading the link, I'd like to take a running jump and kick Steve Webb right in the goolies.
Did nobody work out how those born in 1953 would have to work for up to two and a half years longer than those born a year earlier. I'm sure they did and Steve Webb promised he would do something to help. I do hope that man never works in a job where his bad decisions can ruin something that should be enjoyable.
Because of this man's bad decision, I will miss out on thirty months of pension plus the winter fuel allowance. This is worth £16,000.
I tried to thank Steve Webb on Twitter for flucking up my retirement plans but he blocked me. Suck a courageous wimp. So it's back to the Steve Webb doll & the pin sticking for me.
Pollycat, if our joint efforts work then Steve Webb will be icing his goolies and taking pain killers for the pain resulting from the pin sticking. This is so much more satisfying that seething in silence. Some Burke bloke quote: all it takes for evil to triumph is for good men to say nothing. :silenced:0 -

surely you mean 18 months. unless you expected to draw a pension at the same time as ppl born 1 year before you?0 -
At what age do the French get their state pensionand when can the Eurocrats retire on full gold plated pensions?0

I'd known for many years that I wouldn't get my state pension at age 60 but I'd get it in April 2017 (aged 63.5 years).
At very short notice it was changed to July 2018 - an extra 15 months for me.0 -
I'm a couple of monhs older than Figgerty.

Do we know why they could not have adjusted the extra time we need to do and phased it in, rather than this penalising jump? I was born in 1954 and agree, knowing I could not retire until 63 was okay but it is the extra jump to just under 66 for me. The state pension, though small does mean the difference between working and retiring now. Even if they had shifted it to 64 for me, I would not be complaining but nearly 66 is too much when I started work at 17 and did not have any breaks, being a single female. I almost forgot the £600 fuel allowance that I also won't get, lucky enough to live in London so I do get the "Boris card" at 60 and why do I get free prescriptions if I am not allowed my pension?Paddle No 21 :wave:0 -

Fair points: those unfair perks should be abolished, at least for those who are going to get the new, bigger pension.
Also summfink should be done about those rogues who get full pension for just 35 years of NICs (or, for a shortish window, just 30) when my wife needed 39.Free the dunston one next time too.0 -

because of the (economically illiterate) ideology of austerity.0 -

So those of us males , born later , work even later. With absolutely no chance of breaks. Life sometimes isn't fair. But I accept that the change has to happen and simply adjust accordingly.0 -

you think thats bad? I've work for 47 years and still got 1 year to go.
but will still get the same as those who contributed 35 years.. lol0 -
Equality in all things except pension age.
Finish this sentence "I should get my pension earlier than a man born on the same day because..."After years of disappointment with get-rich-quick schemes, I know I'm gonna get rich with this scheme...and quick! - Homer Simpson0
