what is snowball?

Hi,
I just joined this site today and although my head is totally spinning i am feeling 100 times better than i did this morning! I have a DFW nerd membership pending but am confused about people's snowball details they have on thier signatures.
It seems that whatever this snowball is, it is helping people with their debt so is there any chance i could be shown the light?
