Thermals? Any recommendations?

Options
I feel the cold terribly and I am so fed up with it. I work in a centrally heated office where I have to look reasonably smart (but not suit wearing smart) and I am always cold.

Today I wore a camisole, long sleeved t-shirt, long sleeved blouse, cardigan, skirt and 100 denier thermal tights and I was still cold.

I have bought thermal tops before but find that they dont make any noticeable difference. I also find that a lot of thermal tops are so long that I cant tuck them into trousers as I am only 5ft 4.

Any suggestions? I have loads of work clothes that I just cant wear in winter and I think that if I could find some decent thermals that I could wear underneath it would make a big difference.

Tesco, their long sleeve thermals are ace, I think they're £7 each. They're longish but I can tuck them into trousers with no visible line. I've got five of the tops!

Seg'Ments merino wool tops are warm, and good quality.

I have some from M&S and Primark and like both. M&S are nicer, but obviously more expensive. I am a very cold person so wear thermal leggings and a vest under my work clothes.

Uniqlo. Looks normal to wear as outer-wear and washes well.

I find I need to keep the small of my back and my shoulders protected or I feel cold. Also wearing lined boots helps.

Also make sure you move around regularly to keep your circulation working.

Cashmere or angora. You can get all sorts of products made from it including long johns, socks, vests etc. They're much warmer and not itchy like lambswool. I'd recommend getting a few jumpers/cardigans and layering with any thermal vest underneath. Only problem is that they are expensive, but I think it's well worth it. I even managed to get one in a charity shop for £3 (100% cashmere)!

Slightly off topic, but I feel the cold terribly. I am hypothyroid and although it is controlled by drugs my internal thermostat still does not work properly.

    Just a thought!

once you have experienced merino wool thermals you'll never buy anything else again.

It has microbial properties, so does not smell sweaty at the end of the day. You can get several days wear from one top and it will remain smelling sweet as a daisy

  • I'd give Uniqlo a thumbs up too. It's not 'technical' or expensive.
There most definitely is better stuff out there but this is value for money.
  • Thanks all, this has given me some things to think about. Maybe I need to invest in some better thermals and a couple of cashmere or cashmere blend jumpers.

I do sometimes wonder if there is so reason why I am so cold when everyone else in the same room is warm! I feel fit and well though and dont feel tired so I think its maybe just how I am.
