Croissants - Increased heart rate?

As GP's don't usually seem to know much more than anyone else I thought I'd gather a few opinions on here beforehand.
Every time I eat a croissant (or any other French type of bread) my chest aches and my heart seems to race. Has anyone else experienced this? It's quite disappointing for me cos I love croissants.

The reason people don't move right down inside the carriage is that there's nothing to hold onto when you're in the middle.

Is that acid reflux, or heartburn?0

I'm not sure what an acid reflux is but this feels more like heartburn. It's like the feeling of fear you get when a friend jumps you jokingly. Does that make sense? The reason people don't move right down inside the carriage is that there's nothing to hold onto when you're in the middle.0

Hi there,
It sounds like you have mild palpitations resulting from what you have eaten.
It is worth checking that it is the croissant/bread and not anything that you put on it. (try the jam or whatever seperately and see if it has the same effect)
It could be that you have mild wheat intolerance. This is particularly noticeable in highly processed flour products with added gluten like croissants and many french breads.
If you have a yeast / fungal infection the yeast in the bread could also have this kind of effect on you.
Or it could be that you have a strong reaction to the sugar causing your heart to race (rather like coffee can).
Or it could be that you are reacting to one of the many other ingredients in the bread. (read the label).
My advice would be to see a nutritional consultant that specialises in this kind of thing.
A Book you could read is:
Optimum Nutrition by Patrick Holford.
Hope this helps.
(I'm not a proffessional in this field, just my wife was ill for a long period of time and after we gave up on the NHS I did a lot of research) THankfully she is well now (after 7 years) and we are expecting our first baby in July :-)

Acid Reflux = heartburn
I'm not sure about 'the feeling of fear' - maybe you have:
CROISSANTAPHOBIA!0 -
Congratulations Ben! That's good news especially following a long illness.
Thanks for that information. I don't like jam so it was plain butter croissants. I'm pretty sure its the croissants because it used to happen straight after eating it and last for about 6 hours so I stopped eating them for about four months. This morning I had one and the feeling came straight back. Come to think of it there's a Jamaican bread that's very doughy and when I eat that with butter I get the feeling but not as bad.
I'll ask my GP to refer me to a nutritionist and see if they can perform any intolerance tests to confirm this. It's just strange that I haven't heard of anyone else with these kind of symptoms. The reason people don't move right down inside the carriage is that there's nothing to hold onto when you're in the middle.0 -

LOL! Quite possibly I have that. It's not exactly fear though, sorry i didn't know how to describe it. Maybe more of unexplained excitement? I dunno its just my heart racing for no reason. I've just been to the gym and my chest is fine now.The reason people don't move right down inside the carriage is that there's nothing to hold onto when you're in the middle.0 -
Maybe its butter causing your funny feeling. You said they were butter croissants and the jamaican bread you also put butter on......I dunno....just a guess...lol...:heart2: Love isn't finding someone you can live with. It's finding someone you can't live without :heart2:0
