Awaiting Formal Job Offer

Hi,

Advice would be greatly appreciated.

I received an intention to offer last week, I am still awaiting a formal offer but was asked to fill in an employment information form which included references.

When should I resign from my current role? I don't want to resign before I've received the offer but I'm worried the new company will contact my current employer for a reference before I've resigned, which obviously isn't an ideal way to notify them that I'm leaving.

It is very unusual for a prospective employer to approach the current employer for a reference before the formal job offer


Usually , the job offer will be made `subject` to satisfactory references being received


I would wait it out for a few more days before a polite chase up


Don't resign yet!
