Plus "lawsuit" is more commonly used in the US, and UK doctors aren't paid in the way described.

But the threat of a collections agent now makes more sense than it did before. US laws on debt are actually pretty dire, and I personally wouldn't want to mess with them. I believe that seizing goods is much easier, and that they tend to do it in a very public way (which is probably going to be the talk of the neighbourhood / workplace for some time to come).

And US employers are usually very serious in their threats - they have almost absolute carte blanche because labour laws are very weak and always favour the employer.
  • Thanks guys. Sorry, I didn't realize this is a UK site (it isn't .com.uk). Given that, I got a copy of the contract and am going to pay for it. Point for The Man.

    Thanks again for your help
  • Basically YES, your credit score will get shot to pieces.

And yes, company can get you to pay back at least a portion of fees, but you're not disputing that so I assume you know they are within their right to do so.

IMO contact them and arrange a payment plan if need be.

Only if you then refused to pay the CCJ after they have won.

You have within 1 month to pay the original balance owed including court fees or the CCJ will show on your credit file. The interest and charges is usually several hundred pounds on top of the original balance.
