One step at a time

Options
Hi . I had a diary on the savings board and I was doing great. I split with my long term partner and things were going even better regarding me saving . Then I lost control . I have relapsed with my mental health and I'm in more debt than I have ever been .. with no savings :(

I need to get it back under control .. one step at a time

Today I have worked out how much my direct debits are and when they come out the bank
I've done a meal plan and shopping list and I plan to stick to it

Taking one step at a time ..

    Hi there,

I've recently joined MSE forum and started my own debt diary. I had been reading others for a few weeks before taking the plunge.

Don't give up. You can do it. We're all here for the same reasons, because we are taking proactive steps to get out of debt. It doesn't matter how we got here, what matters is what we're doing to get out of it.

You've made the same step towards being debt free that I did-seeking support from others. You have to make the decisions about what you'll do on your own, but you shouldn't go into this alone. A smoker trying to give up goes to weekly meeting now with a stop smoking counsellor. Someone trying to lose weight goes to a slimming group, like weight watchers or slimming world, an alcoholic goes to AA.

For me I chose to post on here as i didn't think my friends or boyfriend would relate as they are settled and weren't as silly with money as i was, and they are in a position to buy a house, or do a masters, or something similar. I wanted to be with people who were making the same journey. I go to slimming world to help me to lose weight and to be with people in the same boat (my friends are all slimmer than me), when i gave up smoking i went to the smoking sessions.

I hope you will find the support you need. I thought i'd post to show you that you are not alone. Take care.

Hi thank you for replying . It's nice to not feel alone.

So since the split I have been trying to sort everything out .
My housing benefit has been messed up since sept. And I don't think I will get it back payed past a month so that has added to my debt.

I feel a little lost recently .. just trying to get through each day keep my kids warm a roof over their head and food in there stomach .. I've relapsed with my mental health and it's caused me at times to spent money on impulse (half the time I don't even realize I've done it) I know I'm not 100% ready but I'm trying my best to gain back control. When I think about it all it really gets me down so I need to get it all sorted so I can start feeling a little less stressed ..

First I need to pay off my catalogue. And my dad back (he has lent me the money to cover my rent arrears because I was threatened with a county court eviction order . Then it's to pay the credit card off. And then I will see if I can afford to up my payments on my car repayments to get that paid off quicker

My total debt excluding the car is around £4000 including the car and the interest is around £18000.

It scares me .. I've never been in so much debt .. but it's done and now its time to do something about it
