Fined by HMRC for late tax returns...always been employed.

in Cutting tax
As per the title, iv been employed since 16 for the same company. Never been sent a self assesment tax return or registered self employed. In March this year i was sent a letter from HMRC saying as a result of late returns instead of 1060 my tax code would be 703. So i earn £3,030 less before i start paying tax. They need to take an extra £1,800T out my tax to cover the fine. Bear with me as im not that clued up on it all. I phoned in March to get it sorted and was told that i dont need to do a tax return so they would sort my code out.
Come May it was still the same. May phone calls again and promised it was sorted. Fast forward to now, im still on that tax code and have just recieved a letter saying the year after the one i got fined for, i didnt return it on time so i now have more fines building up and will be taken out of next years tax code. I phoned on Friday, was on hold for 90 minutes before speaking to a human that assured me all i need to do is print out a form called X(cant remember what it was called now) fill it out and return it recorded delivery. So i came off the phone and went online to print it. Only for that form to be listed on the site but cannot open it, download it or print it. It says for further details phone HMRC  So i felt fobbed off from the phone call.
SO what do i do now? Write to them? Visit an accountant? Or any other suggestions. My net pay is less than it should be when im trying to maximise income! sorry its so long, hopefully someone can help me!

Did you read his post, booksurr? I sent him a PM with some guidance - couldn't post it on the thread as I am a new member (long time lurker) but I'll post it once I can.0

And write to your MP - such inefficiency is truly dreadful.0 -

OP,
Use the link above to see if you should be filing a tax return. The one that will catch out a lot of people is the Child Benefit one. If you don't meet any of the criteria then I wonder how you got registered. Do you have a common name perhaps and have been confused with someone else?
Here's how to complain to HMRC:

They do really need to get an e-mail address for complaints that people can use - they are incredibly out of date in this regard!'I want to die peacefully in my sleep, like my father. Not screaming and terrified like his passengers.' (Bob Monkhouse).
Sky? Believe in better.
Note: win, draw or lose (not 'loose' - opposite of tight!)0 -

he risks further tax code adjustments if fines continue to mount. They wont if the submits, he is then free to argue the toss about the existing charges0 -

But the OP has already been told twice by HMRC that he doesn't need to submit a return, so what needs to happen is that they cancel any penalties and take him off the list of people that some part of the organisation thinks do need to submit a return.0 -
Apparently i might have been added onto the list in 2009 when subcontractors pay was changed and employers started paying 20% of their pay straight to HMRC. So my employer could be to blame(according to HMRC) Im going to write up a letter and post recorded delivery. Hopefully get it sorted out soon.:eek:Living frugally at 24
