I wonder if Land Registry should merge with the DVLA - SDLT might then become optional like car tax is for 500,000 people.

Oh, I don't know. It is pretty difficult to hide a house. :)

how exactly is that relevant to the cost of £40 to email a copy of a electronically held document?

are you talking about the title plan or the tittle registry?

These can be downloaded for £3 each

well, it's difficult to see why a computer produced copy of a land registry document, delivered over the internet cost over £40.

Bespoke computer systems have to be paid for. Not as if one can buy the package off the shelf for £99.

Is that free market capitalism don't see point of privatisation of Land Reg other than short term game.

No real point now to privatise anything, other than right wing dogma.
Ministers used to be accountable directly to the voters, for example Home Secretaries used to get the sack for stuff that happened in their sphere of influence, now they can call the CEO of a French catering firm to a select committee to explain why it's all gone Pete tong. A nice little firewall they've created for themselves.

If you want to be ripped off, it does.
land-registry-online.com is not affiliated or associated with HM Land Registry or any other government department, and you can apply direct via https://www.gov.uk. Our prices include the standard cost of £3 due to HM Land Registry for title plans/registers & also our additional £36.95 service fee, which includes our search assistance and support.
