poodlehorse, it sounds like you don't need a cooker! You're all set. Although the hot water is really annoying. Kettles are the most energy inefficient things in the world.

When we had the builders in we survived on Corned beef and instant mash, sandwiches, all sorts of cold meats from the deli with either instant mash, chips from chippie or salads, even tinned potatoes, as the autumn drew on added gravy (granules) to meat pies also hot mugs of oxo or bovril. Managed to borrow a camping stove later and then a microwave. our so diet improved.
Looking back on it we can smile but at the time it was awful!!! Especially the day the plumbers took the toilet away (wrong fittings sent) and just left us a note to say 'sorry, loo not functioning' not a good end to our working day

just remembered Instant custard and Mr kiplings apple pies
  • Good evening,

Healthy, delicious food with a microwave:
Buy more plates from Ikea at 19p each. Improvise a chopping board, borrow a sharp knife

    Step one:
By a set meal Chinese from you local takeaway making sure that you choose one that delivers food in semi-ridged plastic containers.
    Step two:
Enjoy the meal but wash-up and keep the containers and chopsticks.
    Step three: Prepare
Next day a little shopping then make a small marinade with 2 tablespoons of soy sauce, teaspoon or two of vinegar, finely chopped clove of garlic and finely chopped small lump of root ginger (about the size of your thumb) then add an egg-cup full of white wine. Place pieces of salmon fillet into the marinade.
Slice two courgettes lengthwise into thin slices (3mm)
Cut broccoli or leeks into small pieces.
Put the courgettes to one container with 2mm of water in the bottom (sprinkle tarragon if you like). Put the lid on tightly.
Put the broccoli or leeks onto another container with 2mm water. Put the lid on tightly.
    Step four: Cook
After an hour (time for the marinade to work) cook rice in the microwave and remove keeping the lid on or keep sealed if it is cook-in-the-bag.
Then put the courgette container into the microwave and cook for six minutes. Interrupt the programme after three minutes and add the broccoli or leeks container then continue cooking.
When finished remove containers, set aside and leave lids on.
Microwave the salmon container for three minutes (for three fillets). Remove the container when cooked, Drain the liquid from all three containers into a new container and pour in a liberal amount of honey. Add two thinly sliced mushrooms, leave lid off and microwave for two minutes.
Serve rice, serve courgette strips side-by-side and place the salmon on top. Serve the broccoli or leeks then spoon the sauce around the plate.
Sprinkle chopped spring onion tops and serve with chopsticks and a bottle of chilled white wine.
