I started working full time in a kitchen for a large chain of pubs in the UK about 3 months ago.
This friday I revieved a payslip for 21.90 hours worked, but I knew I had worked between 35 and 40 hours.
I breifly told my pub manager who seemed very shocked and said she would fix the problem but it was too busy at the time to do anything about it as it was a busy saturday lunchtime and we were both on shift.
I later informed my kitchen manager, and at the end of my shift, he took me into the office to look at the time and attendance records. It appeared that someone in the management team had deleted the records of me working 2 of my shifts. He took a note of my hours worked and said he would notify payroll so that they could sort out the problem.
However while we were looking through the records it appeared that one (or more) of the managers had changed my finish times to slightly earlier in order to reduce the number of hours spent. I suspect this has been done many more times and to other employees as well as myself as the managment staff get higher bonuses if they are able to reduce the number of hours employees work.
I know this is illegal as the are not paying staff for all their hours worked in order to increase their own paychecks but what can I do about this?
Thank you for any advice you can give me

Report it to Head Office
Go to other employees and ask them to check their wages
Go to your union
Sit back and do nothing
Of course when you report it you should make sure you have evidence and you should rightly or wrongly expect hostility from management.Don't trust a forum for advice. Get proper paid advice. Any advice given should always be checked0 -
If you work 40 hours and get paid the NMW that's fine.
If you work 40 hours and get paid only for 37 hours - your company is also paying you below the NMW and that's illegal.
It sounds as dodgy as hell - they'd be better having a clock in system - not too expensive to buy and then at least everyone's hours (even your supervisors!) would be accurate!0 -

While watching your back, find out who is involved (I'll bet its more than one individual), try and quietly gather evidence. Try not to discuss the situation openly or it will find its way back to you.
Once you have a clear idea of who is involved and the extent, you can gather your thoughts on how to proceed.Don’t be a can’t, be a can.0
