Will they wait?

Just did a big post and it disappeared on me!!!

Basically, I have received a summons to appear in Court for non payment of Council Tax on 30th August 2007. Although I don't have the money at the moment, I am guaranteed some towards the end of September :j which will enable me to pay the Council Tax for the year. My question is, if I write to them, are they likely to wait for 3 weeks or so?

Also, I have 2 credit cards which I have made arrangements to pay on. The first is Capital 1 and I owe about £1000 on it. I have been paying £35 per month for the past 4 months. The second is Vanquis which I owe about £800. After paying the Council Tax, I should be left with a chunk to pay off the 2 cards but I would prefer them to be finished. What percentage do you think I should offer them both in full and final?

Thanks for any advice.

Carol

Hi Carol, im a debt case worker at the CAB.Altough its late in the day, I would ring the Council with your proposal as they might withdraw it from the court, saving you £ 65 in costs.

If it goes to court, a liabillity order will be issued against you, and you will be ordered to pay based on your circumstances. Make everyone aware of your offer and intent. You do not want this been sent to the bailiffs, If it goes that far remember that you do NOT have to let them in, keep your doors and windows locked ( they ARE allowed to walk in through a closed but unlocked door, or window ) If they do gain 'peaceful entry' they have aright to use force to gain entry later if neccesssary.

If bailiffs cant get in they will give up and return the warrant. This is a last ditch chanceto negotiate with the council.

    Best wishes
