Employment history

Hello, I have a problem with attempting to find my employment history. My computer broke and lost my up to date cv. Have been at my current job for 3 years and never thought anything more about it. Now I am about to start searching for a new job but I have got rid of all my old paperwork and my last cv is from when I finished college. Any ideas on how I could find the details and dates? Would this be from the tax man? I'm lost and have no idea where to begin with no dates. Any help would be appreciated so much as I can't start looking for a new job without them

Thanks

Just do the best you can from memory.

You don't need the information to look for work. If you can't remember what you did before you started this job 3 years ago then whatever you learned on the previous job isn't worth mentioning anyway.

Would your current employer have your CV on file...the one you used to get the job you have?

Even though your computer broke, but I am sure that you can at least still remember the names of the organisations that you last worked for. So maybe you can contact the HR department (or relevant person at the previous organisations) to ask them about the details that they may still have on file for you. I understand that sometimes, HR departments may discard information after a certain period of time, but it may still be possible to contact the companies directly for them to see what information they hold, and hopefully they can give you the employment dates.

    Good luck :)

  • Many online application forms require start/end dates at 'day in month' granularity so without this information you would have to guess. If the organisation were to check previous 'guessed' employer details and there is a mismatch, queue CV for bin.
  • Check your bank statements for the last 6 years to see when pay changed- That will give you the months at least.

Do you have old payslips, P60s or job applications?

    Blimey.

OK what were you doing during the London Olympics? London bombings 7/7? When Jacko died? Twin towers? Elvis left the building? Jade Goody coined the word "chipstick"? 1 Jan 2000?

  • Did you send an email of your cv to anyone - it might be in your sent items?
