I think a time come when you know your home no longer suits your needs and you need to move. If you can afford it financially then i think you should go for it. It sounds to me as if your mind is made up anyway so go with what you need to do.
Good luck

The house cannot be extended in any way apart from the garage. There is barely a foot either side of the house and our garden is too small for us to extend into. We only have 1 downstairs room so nothing to knock in to and upstairs the 3 main bedrooms are used. The fourth room just about takes the computer and a bookcase. The question of leaving my family in debt were I to die is obviously one to think about carefully. However then there would be the option to downsize. As a teacher I have good life ins plus my endowments and my dread policy - My hubbie probably wouldn't need to work if I wasn't around anymore! I do agree though that living for 2day can only be done if you have the money to fund it. I was just looking at a way of using what money I have to improve our standard of living while we are younger. I am an only child so when I am grey and old I will have money I don't need! I do believe that money is for spending and enjoying but I also don't waste it. i only have one life and am not interested in keeping it in the bank.0

There are four adults in a small three bedroom house in our family. We are getting a much bigger shed. can't convert the garage as its full of deceased family stuff, car bits, bikes, skateboards etc, loft is full so its skip on the drive time.
How much of the stuff stored do you actually use. If you've not even looked at it for over two years dump it. Chances are you will never use it now. Try starting with a good sort out and new storage system. You don't want to leave your other half with a huge debt/house if anything happens, or be doing all that housework when you are older.
What about renting storage at one of those warehouse facilities? We have one near where I work and they now have extra units in the car park its proving so popular.I'm stressed enough over this - please don't add to it.
