Chipped Tooth

I bit my nail this morning and chipped my tooth.
It's one of the front bottom ones. You can't see anything, but I can feel that it's all rough on the inside. Doesn't hurt in the slightest, but I keep rubbing my tongue against it (not altogether sure why, but can feel an ulcer is going to appear).
As it doesn't hurt, do I need to go to the dentist? Is there anything they can do? Will I just get used to the rough feeling?

I did this twice. The first time the dentist filed it smooth and the second time he painted a coating on it which was some sort of filling but didn't involve any drilling and only took a few minutes to do. It probably won't stop feeling jagged all by itself so I'd say it was worth making an appointment assuming you can afford it at this time of year!0

Thank you very much for your reply. I'm due an appointment to go to the dentist soon anyways, but just wondered how much something like this would cost. There's nothing really to fill, it's one of the thin teeth at the front, so I'm guessing the filing down would do. Is it painful?Pink Sproglettes born 2008 and 2010

Dentist will just smooth it off for you, unless the chip is through the enamel, no filling should be required, as said above, just a coating should suffice.0

I've chipped front teeth several times, and the dentist has fixed it with composite white filling. Be careful though because it can easily happen again, so never bite your nails!0

No the filing down didn't hurt. My dentist is private only but he didn't charge me to do it as it was so quick to do, so probably lowest charge on NHS?0

+1 to this!!
It is one of the most damaging habits for tooth wear! How to find a dentist.
1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.0 -
Oh, I didn't realise this was a possibility. I chipped an upper front tooth biting through the string on a label, mercerised cotton one!
It looks like a notch, symptom of syphilis, I believe. :cool:Member #14 of SKI-ers club

Yes - these things are bad too!
Biting off labels, biting Selotape, hairdressers opening hair grips with their teeth, electricians bearing wire with their teeth....... All very bad for them! How to find a dentist.
