This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

Morning all

I've been awake since 2:15, so I've swapped the washing over on the maiden, hopefully it will all dry by the end of the day.

Yesterday I collected DGS from school, took him home & gave him tea before taking him to training and then taking him home and I collected a parcel from the PO.

I also managed to tidy the living room, I still have to do the kitchen & the spare bedroom, but my guests aren't arriving until 7ish on Friday, so I have plenty of time.

Hubby and the rest of his team all worked a 12 hour day as there were 3 storage rooms to be emptied, at least he was busy and therefore distracted from yet more problems with his family.

I need to drop hubby at work, take my car to have a new tyre fitted (the side wall has popped) £68, ouch, then walk back to work, I have the money, so it is inconvenient but not a crisis.

Work is very busy, I just hope my machines keep going, the new ones I have aren't as reliable when producing a large run, so a lot of unjamming is usually needed.

Tru, sorry about Lacey, thank you for the Christmas songs and carols, since you take the trouble to post one every day I think you should be allowed to include Cliff is you want.

Have a good day everyone.

Hugs Hester

Wow Hester do you ever sleep?

    Morning all,

two texts an early morning phone call and a dog who needed a wee as well as a dream I was back at school (heaven forbid) woke me.

I'm a bit cold so sleep isn't happening.

    Onwards and forwards,

    Have a great day all.

  • Morning all. Oh dear we are back with the Insomniacs Club again. I was awake at 4.30 as usual and couldn't get back off again. Yesterday's 6.30 was lovely, I wish that could be every day.

We had a lovely meal for our ladies night at the carvery last night and it wasn't heaving with early revellers after all. So we had a good old natter. It was made more enjoyable as I'd been emailed a voucher for 20% off food till the 5th. When we paid she gave us another for 20% off in January so that will cover our next meet!

The DGDs are all still fast asleep so peace reigns at the minute. Another hour would be lovely! They are back again later for tea and another sleepover so we'll take a vote on what tea will be! The youngest is here straight from school but the other two will be later after their respective swimming and diving clubs.

Shopping to do this morning but am hoping I'll get away with just Aldi and Iceland next door (I get their smoked haddock) but not made out a list yet. The fridge looks a bit bare, as well as the fruit bowl and veg boxes, so needs must! I'm still trying to get freezer stocks down but it never seems to get any emptier for some reason!

I got a lot of my presents wrapped yesterday, with Mr TA's assistance!!! Bless him, he thought he was helping but he was just a hinderance really!!

Have a good day all. It feels another mild one here hope it's the same elsewhere. Take care all and ((((HUGS))))) if you need/want them. xx

  • Good morning all,

Thank you Hester for starting us off I hope you managed to go back to sleep for a little while.

I think it has rained for most of the night. It is bin day si Himself is just getting dressed so he can put it out.

I had my retinal screening yesterday, but it didn't go very well. I have catarracts on both my eyes, but the one on my right eye is more advanced and she couldn't get a good picture of the back of my eye, so I might have to be referred to clinic. The optician told me it wasn't quite ready for removal yet. I am a bit fed up with this haze in front of my eye, but I won't look forward to the operation as and when I have it. I think it is the thought of being awake whilst thy do it.

We are popping into town this morning so will drop DGD1 off at work, and when we come home I will defrost the freezer.

Tru I am thanking you for the carol because I know it will be lovely, it is amazing how a tune can get into your head and stay there all day.

Elona I hope it is good news regarding the price of the chalet bungalow, but please be sure you really want it and all the improvements you feel it needs, it can be quite tiresome to have builders and workmen in your home long term.

    Have a good day all

    Morning everyone

HH - I have nights where sleep just doesn't come easy - I then have to get up in the very early hours as I just toss and turn and can't settle. My brain just doesn't switch off, fortunately those nights are few and far between.

DH up and gone to work stupid stupid early. DS1 now getting ready for work. DS2 still in his pit, will wake him shortly.

Still dark, but looks wet underfoot but not raining now and rather blustery, but mild.

Dinner last night was roast chicken pieces, roasted herby potatoes and carrots, brocolli, LO yorkshires and gravy. Tonight I'm not sure, but possibly fish, chips and beans for the menfolk, I'll have fish, jacket potato and veg.

Work yesterday was still busy, was pleased to finish at lunchtime. Now on days' off have loads to do, so will just keep plodding along, I want to get the xmas shopping finished and wrapped so I'm not doing it in a rush at the end and I've offered help to mum and dad as mum's still off her feet, said I'd do the shopping online if that helps. She went back to hospital yesterday but I didn't get chance to ring last night - I'll do that later to see how she got on.

The outlaws came yesterday - when I'd said to come over today I'd forgotten it was Parents Eve for DS2 so once I was home from work I rang them and said it would be good if they could come over straight away then we could get done what they wanted. They did come over and I'd already got the pc on and some pages open with the relevant websites up ready. As expected they were all smiles and chatty - until I'd done what they needed, and just before they left they brought up the subject that DH had put the phone down on her a couple of days' ago - they have no clue - DH and I got a phone call 2-3 weeks ago to say that a close family member has become very poorly, and treatment was going to commence shortly. I then got the task of ringing the ill person as DH's parents had not been told, (ill person relative of DH's mum) - ill person and other relatives that knew on that side of the family weren't going to tell DH's mum - some of that side of the family are estranged. I managed to persuade ill person to let me ring DH's mum and dad to tell them what the current situation was - ill person agreed, and so I rang and told them - they went straight away to see ill person. So we had hoped some bridges had been built - but DH's mum seems to think that she knows everything and that she knows things that we don't. She has no clue that unless DH and I had pushed she wouldn't have been told, they had no intention of telling her until they absolutely had to. Families .........

Today will just be trying to get stuff done, have quite a bit of ironing, dirty wash basket needs sorting and housework to be done. Plenty to go at. Have a nail appointment first thing.

DS2's Parents evening was very positive - seems very strange that once you start pushing all of a sudden they couldn't say a bad thing about my son!........ Not sure what's going on there, but at least the pressure has been lifted from DS2 and he can just get on with the work.

    Keep safe and well x

    Morning All

Just weather this morning, not sure what it's going to do. Yesterday afternoon was just lovely for a change, I managed a 60 minute walk early evening, I just love nosing into other folks homes before they draw the curtains!

DW on and washing on airers, not much else going on. Posted 2 birthday cards yesterday, one on time but the other about 2 weeks late! Made a veggie curry for tea which was lovely but the kitchen smells a bit this morning despite burning a candle last night.

Hope you are all well, HH hope the sleepless nights disappear soon. Take care. XX

lol thanks Hester thumbsup.gif But that would mean taking someone else's song away then I'd feel guilty - I do have my favourite carol on Christmas Eve though so that's OK :D I'll nip over to YouTube when I need a fix, lol.

Judi I read your post a bit too quickly and thought you said the dog had texted you :rotfl:

The chickens were a bit quiet yesterday, hopefully they'll be OK today.

I think I've developed a problem with white bread, if I eat one slice I'm OK but any more than that and I feel really full, like I've eaten a huge meal. Then I feel sleepy for a couple of hours. It doesn't happen if I toast it though. Very odd – and annoying because I love white baguettes.

No plans for today, I'll just be pottering about. Which usually means I look forward to doing nothing but find myself wanting to move about a bit so I go out of my way to find things to do and end up getting lots done :D

Morning everyone, sorry to hear so many are struggling to sleep, hope it improves for you all.

Yesterday was a busy day but a good one. Went off into town in the morning to pick up my new glasses and immediately saw an improvement in my vision, realised how much have been struggling lately. Did a few bits of food shopping, we are lucky enough to have an independent fishmongers in town and he does a lovely fish pie mix, when there's just two of you it's handy to buy it ready prepared, split it up when got home and have enough for three meals in freezer. Also got some of my fav yoghurts which are currently on offer in Wait, ose.
Then best bit of day, brought Billy home, he was a treasure to load again and just marched straight on. When he got off the other end he started calling to his mates on the yard and they all replied, so lovely to hear such a welcome from his horsey pals. We have an appointment next Tuesday to do the injections but now he will just rest up.
So, am off to see him this morning and then have hair appointment this afternoon which am very much looking forward, my hair grows out, not down, so if leave it too long end up looking like member of the hair-bear bunch :rotfl:

Candlelight - hugs to you m'dear re your eyes and potential operation, must be very frustrating for you x

Hope everyone has a good day xx
  • Hi chums dry but very grey and murky looking at the moment .I was going to drop DDs birthday presents off at her work then DGD texed and said could I drop them off at their house instead around 5.30.So I did and stayed indoors with my feet up knitting in the afternoon.Went to give the presents to DD and ended up staying for dinner which was a nice surprise so what I had dug out for dinner last night from the freezer will do tonight's instead.Chicken breast which I will do in the remoska wrapped in bacon and foil then a nice tomato salad to accompany it.
I must dig out some Christmas cards and start doing them I know I have part of a left over box from last year tucked away somewhere. No food shopping to buy today at least :)
Have a good day chums what ever you are doing

  • Thanks for everyones warm welcome on Tuesday.

    Hope everyone is doing ok.

Had a good cry on Tuesday night, as anxiety was very high, but felt better for that, and for actually talking to my family about. I really am blessed with the most supportive parents and husband.

Spent yesterday at home with my little girl (2.5 yrs). I love her more than life itself, but sometimes I struggle to keep her occupied, without going crazy. We read books, painted, play doughed and made cakes yesterday, but she was still bouncing off the walls at 9PM. I just feel that she deserves a better Mum than me. :(

Am at work for a few hours today, so DD will be with my Mum. Is it bad that work feels like a relief?!!

Really not sure what dinner will be tonight. Whatever I can rustle up from the freezer!

Crossing fingers and toes for your eye problems.

Having a fairly lazy day and plan on doing some wrapping later.

I went to weigh in last night and lost half a pound. :j

Planning a brunch of omelette, yoghurt and fruit and then beef with mixed veg for tonight.

    Nursemaggie

Fingers crossed the flat is what will suit you.

Still awaiting EA's phone call but don't want to look desperate and make the call myself.

    Hugs to all
