    One idea might be to split the home improvements into smaller jobs and do one at a time paying off the debt before moving onto the next one (or save in advance and pay no interest).

    I've never missed a payment on anything and have a mortgage with halifax (For the last 3 years) so that possibly helps. I did it online. The decision was almost instant.

    You have to login to your account before you start the process and they give you a personalised quote with rates. Fill a few details then click a button and the amount was on my bank account within the hour.
