Link Financial

A number of years ago received various threatening letters and numerous unpleasant telephone calls from Link Financial for two long outstanding debts. Eventually, they told me I had no option but to enter into a payment plan to pay around £300 per month towards both accounts.
I’ve since learned that I probably should not have entered into these agreements. My question is am I now committed and obliged to continue to make these payments, or can I stop them legally. I’ve never received any documentation to support these debts (although I did get into some debt trouble some years ago).
I don’t want to just stop, get threatened again and find out that I am in the wrong and penalised further.
I’m grateful for any advice.
