A number of years ago received various threatening letters and numerous unpleasant telephone calls from Link Financial for two long outstanding debts. Eventually, they told me I had no option but to enter into a payment plan to pay around £300 per month towards both accounts.
I’ve since learned that I probably should not have entered into these agreements. My question is am I now committed and obliged to continue to make these payments, or can I stop them legally. I’ve never received any documentation to support these debts (although I did get into some debt trouble some years ago).
I don’t want to just stop, get threatened again and find out that I am in the wrong and penalised further.
I’m grateful for any advice.

Hi,
You say a number of years ago, how many to be exact ?
Was there ever a period of 6 years that passed (assuming your in England or Wales) without payment been made or any written acknowledgement by yourself ?

If the answer is yes, then it's possible the accounts may be statute barred, and you may not have to pay them.
You always have options, you should never take advise from a debt collection agency, but I think you now realise this.
Dependant on your answer to my first question, there are other things you can do here, if the account is not statute barred, then you can ask for proof of the debts, or make a CCA request, (dependant on what type of accounts they were).I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards. It would've been around the 5-7 year mark. so by the sounds of it could've been statute barred. they were credit card's. I've never requested a CCA at all.0

They still will be, once statute barred, always statute barred, it cannot be undone, it appears you may of made payment after a period of 6 years, so that will not re-set the clock.
You should ceace all payment and send each creditor the following letter :
