Wood for the trees...

Good Evening,
So, I think I've got a basic understanding of Credit Files and Defaults etc but I am completely at a loss as to where to start with this.
I have a number accounts that are now defaulted. Some defaults date back to Jan 2010. My credit file is a mess and I really want to have it tidied up as its constantly on my mind!
I have recently moved home so some of the accounts are registered to the wrong address, I am sure that some accounts should have defaulted earlier than what has been recorded and I need to sort out the outstanding balances on some of these.
I also have noticed that someone with a similar name has been mistaken for me (different date of birth) as a result all of this persons historic addresses are linked to me and I have an account on my credit file that does not belong to me.
I can't see the wood for the trees and have no idea where to start!
Any help would be appreciated
Jim

Hi,
The account you say is not yours can be disputed from the credit ref agency website, just click on "dispute" and follow the prompts.
As regards the other accounts, if they don't have your current address there's not a lot you can do, however by checking your file, that will most probebly be flagged up to your creditors, and they will more than likley be able to trace you, so you may be getting some contact in the post shortly, depends if your easily traceable or not !!!I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards. Then these will disappear next monthjimmypounder wrote: »My credit file is a mess and I really want to have it tidied up as its constantly on my mind!

It's OK for them to be showing against the address that you were at when you started the agreement. Default dates can be argued with the original creditor if necessary. What do you mean by 'sort out the outstanding balances on some of these?'jimmypounder wrote: »I also have noticed that someone with a similar name has been mistaken for me (different date of birth) as a result all of this persons historic addresses are linked to me and I have an account on my credit file that does not belong to me.
This needs to be sorted out with the credit reference agencies0
