Tombola - when is an advent comp not free..?

As above - went to Tombola site to see if they were running their advent this year - on home page pic of a penguin stating ''free game'' the clickable link to the game states ''free'' but it would appear you need to pay £2 to play this year -so that is one less for me to do this year.

Comments

  • I would wonder if they are in breach of ASA guidelines considering that the advent calendar competition is anything but "free" for anyone who isn't an existing customer who has paid in? They sent out an email tonight with the word "free" three times with no mention of a £2 pay-in required.

    Not very ethical.

A lot of the bingo/gambling websites do this, jackpotjoy for instance. Say its free but you have to spend x amount to get access to it.

Sorry to say but I'm on Tombola's side with this one and i'm not even a member. Mainly because it is a gambling site and hundreds of thousands of people pay to play and so unlike other website comps it would be unfair for people who never deposit to be able to join in. They might have worded it wrongly but the ad was aimed at paying players I think. People who have paid to play games would have done that anyway and as a side bonus get the advent that they don't additionally have to pay for so is free in that way. Did any of that make sense cos i can't understand it lol

It's a bit like adverts where a product is said to be FREE and then finding the small print mentions the £7.99 p&p that must be paid, misleading but sadly not illegal.
