Before anyone wonders (and it's ludicrous that I should feel the need to point this out) the ownership and division of scarce things such as resources are economics, it's the first thing you learn in the first lesson after the name of the teacher.

I liked the idea of an asteroid flying by with $3,200,000,000,000 of platinum on it. If you mined out $3,200,000,000,000 of platimum it wouldn't be worth $3,200,000,000,000 (at the risk of sounding like Yogi Berra).

It's an interesting idea. If we can use the power of the sun to get to asteroids then perhaps we can hugely increase the productive capacity of the world.

I think you missed clause 3b of the conditions of sale, you don't own the mineral rights of your new asteroid, the mineral rights were an optional extra, please PM me if you are interesting in extending your purchase.

Can't be bothered to google it but I would be willing to bet there are enough asterods in the solar system for there not to be a scarcity by any normal definition.

Surely if there were suddenly that much more platinum in circulation then it would also be a lot less scarce and thus a lot less valuable?

Yes that is correct, in fact, it is in my sales literature, if one of my (ex) asteroids completely destroys the Earth, I'll accept full responsibility, providing the purchaser bought the optional insurance cover.

you own what you are in a position to take and defend. If you could fly to the moon, you could call yourself the owner. Anyone wanting to take it off you would have to do what the British did for hundreds of years, rape and pillage.
