Need some advice!

Hi guys,
I need some help, I racked up some debts throughout my adult life and they have relentlessly followed me. I always promised myself that when I was in a position to pay them I would. Now I am in that position, I have begun paying. I received a letter from Robinson way for a debt I know I owe and is fairly recent (maybe 3 years) so I paid the debt. Now all my debts seem to have passed to Robinson way! What I want to ask really is that some of these debts are extremely historic, like from 2004! How do I dispute the statutory barred debts and if I provide payment details for debts I do want to pay will they just take payment for any debt they like?
Thanks in advance for any help and advice 🙂🙂

Hi,
Firstly, you should never, ever, ever give a DCA any kind of payment card details which they could potentially use on other accounts they hold in your name.
If you have done this, I recommend you ring your bank, say you have lost your card, and get a new one, with a new number, then the DCA cannot use it again.
Any new payments you make should be done via online banking, so the details are not shared with anyone.
Any debt that has not been paid or acknowledged in writing for any period of 6 years, will be statute barred, and you should send the appropriate letter to them telling them so.

They are not supposed to, but it has been known, after all, you do owe the debt, they would argue that was a legitimate reason, DCA's lie, cheat, and break the data protection act on a regular basis, best advice is just don't trust them at all.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards. Wow that's terrible!
Thank you for the link to the letter, I'm going to send that out to them tomorrow.
What's the procedure with debts that arrive in my maiden name?
Thanks 🙂0 -

Treat the same as any other, you would still be liable despite your name change.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards. Yeah I thought as much. Is there any way I can check the age of the debt before I send the letter? They don't all appear on my credit file0

Not unless you have your original paperwork, if they don't appear on your file, that indicates they are over 6 years old, which is a good start, as long as no payment has been made, and you haven't written to them saying "about this debt of mine......".
You should just send the SB. Letter as that makes it there problem, not yours.
They must provide proof that it isn't SB, you do not have to prove it is.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards. If something shows on my credit file with the original debtor as a zero balance (satisfied), but I have received a letter from a collection agency for the money....what do I do there?0

That usually means the debt has been sold by the original creditor, to a debt collector.
That is the reason the balance says "0".
If you get something in writing from the new owner, normal procedure would be to send the provit letter, see what responce you get.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards.
