Anyone ever dealt with this company ?

Looking at there polar system for £1300

https://www.blackbeargaming.co.uk/product/polar/

Please don't say build your own as it is for my son and I would not have a clue.

Was also looking at the dell Alienware machine x51 highest spec which is £1200 with current discount available but has only 960 graphics compared to polar which has 970

If that makes sense ?

  • check out https://www.chillblast.com - I bought my first gaming pc from them ten years ago and they are still going strong. They frequently win awards for their custom builds and £1,300 will get you a hell of a setup!

Have a look at Overclockers and Cyberpower websites.

Check out their prebuilt systems, they may have something you like.

Then go on their respective forums, make a post saying exactly what your son will want it for (games he plays etc) and you will get some very nice people suggesting various setups and if you don't want to build it yourself you can choose to have them to build it for you.

Make it clear in your post that you don't have a clue or you'll be overwhelmed by techie stuff.

The Alienware stuff is nice (we have one in the house, it weighs a ton, eats electricity, is noisy and looks cool but my boring looking black box pc (Cyberpower built) wipes the floor with it in gaming terms.

It's one of my local companies, and I can recommend them to a point.

Couple of my friends worked there approx. 2 years ago, I've purchased components on occasion too.

Generally they know their stuff and are responsive and honest.

(assuming it's the same owners) - I'd be confident buying there.
  • Build your own!! Once you put power supply in the case then the motherboard everything else just slots into place. It really is simple, I taught my 11 year old how to do it in one sitting. The hardest part is the fiddling with the header wires but if you can read a basic diagram you'd be fine. Plenty tuorials out there.

You'd build a decent gaming PC for half the price you're looking at with the pre built systems.

I shall i building a new pc in the next few months, and looking at the likes of chillblast they don't really provide value for money , but do make a healthy profit from those who choose to buy from them,
I have spent hours/days doing my research combined with comparing prices and product spec's, as well as reading lots of customer and professional reviews, and i wouldn't use most of the components that these companies use to build their pc's

A dodgy tier 2-3 or worse PSU can cost you a lot of money should it fail, Yes i have even researched in dept as to the quality of the components that some brands use, In my old core2 duo box i have a tier 1 PSU that i chose with a little help from a independent system builder whilst choosing in store, who told me that the corsair 760AX was a better PSU build than the RM spec, due to the quality of the components used to build it

Also I'm debating building my own, the only bit that i ain't that confident about is installing the CPU into the main board and then installing the CPU air cooler (yes air cooler) because they are as effective as liquid cooling solutions even if over clocking , But it ain't that hard , just a case of using the correct amount of thermal paste and handling the CPU chip correctly to minimise the risks of ESD So wrist strap and PSU plugged into power supply (not switched on , for grounding) unless there is a good alternative earthing point, I ain't no expert , but i could easily be if i wanted to be, maybe, lol
