    Happy New Year MFW's

    Its been a nice break, managed to spend a bit of time at home relaxing and also worked a bit too (which is all overtime so happy with that).

    The festive period itself was cheap as we haven't been out much and did no 'Sales' shopping.

    Back to work on Monday and its going to be a busy few months. I need to eat a lot better than I have been to keep my energy levels up. Good news is that I get paid next week which means I can top up savings!

    Someone came round to measure our bathroom so should get out first quote in the next few weeks. He comes highly recommended and apparently has good customer care, a friend of ours had an issue a year after installation and he sorted it with no problems which is reassuring.

    However im dreading the quote.
    Mortgage Start - August 2013 £145,000 ************ Balance at April 2017 - £59,000

    Target - Overpay by £2,500 each month ************** Mortgage free by December 2018!
  • My mortgage payment this month, along with the overpayment has cleared and means that the outstanding balance is now .... £115,674

    When the mortgage started (2 years and 5 months ago) the start balance was £145,000

    So we have cleared £30,000!

    That is amazing :). Well done for all the hard work. It's not easy doing OP when the majority in our society prefer to spend :)

    Fantastic, Got a date in mind for being MF? Oops just read further back - 4 years, want to join me in my target date?

    My mortgage started 29.2.2012 so I'm aiming for 29.2.2020 No idea how I'll do it but sounds a nice date to me:)

  • Thanks Jeanangeo and Frayed Knot

    Yes 4 years is my target - although I expect a lot will change so we shall see.

    I have felt very proud of myself today after reaching the 30k mark. Like most on this forum we have literally thrown all our money into the mortgage (or savings for the mortgage) and its the first time I feel we are making proper headway.

    Iv purchased some books I have wanted online today as a reward - £48! but I cant remember the last time I spent money on myself so I am refusing to feel guilty (well trying not to)

    Payday in 2 days time !

  • As I have mentioned before, my partners pay generally covers all DD including the mortgage overpayment.

    My pay this month has been less than lasts however this is what we have done with it

    £960 - Mortgage overpayment (random figure due to limit imposed by bank)
    £1000 - Savings (or mortgage overpayment pot)
    £800 - Bathroom account.

    TOTALS -

    Savings = £11,000
    Bathroom = £1,000.

    It leaves things a little tight this month but I am determined to manage. I should earn a little more next month due to all my overtime so hoping to put 1k into each pot in Feb.

    anyway - how awful is the first week back to work in January. I cant tell you how much I am looking forward to being at home all weekend in my pjs making a pie.

    Bathroom update -

    So we received our quote from a local bathroom place, and couldn't believe how much he is charging. The quote stands at about £7,000 (there is no way I am paying that much for a new bathroom). This does however include a load of stuff that I wouldn't have such as light up mirrors and worktops so it could be reduced.

    But at least we have a starting point. The problem for us is that the bathroom needs reconfiguring slightly and the toilet needs moving around so that is increasing costs.

    Its all very confusing but I have no intentions on rushing into anything.
