    I've been Money Tipped!
GTAV is a well optimised game, I have a friend running it off a laptop with a 3 year old i7 at 2.4ghz and a 770m graphics card, still better than your setup but he gets a almost solid 60fps on it at normal settings.

And a friend with a 2700k and AMD 280 graphics card that runs it with custom textures at a almost solid 60fps.

The only thing about using a tv for gaming is purely for multiplayer due to it having minor lag so if you up against people with good monitors and such they will have a minimal advantage which may make all the difference.

While a CPU upgrade is nice, its not really required. Most games arn't cpu dependant.

while alot of newer games are now using more CPU that before, so they still run well on older generation cpus. And the i7 9xx series are still pretty good for games.

DDR4 makes no real difference for gaming over DDR3. I only recently moved from an i7 930, and it was still a very capable cpu for gaming. I did have 12gb rather than 6gb. Only reason i switched was because the motherboard failed

Are you serious? I can't get even Fifa 15 to play on the PC on my Intel core 2 duo e8500 (3.16ghz) socket 775 wolfdale..

Core 2 duo is pretty old tech. What GFX card have you got?

Core 2 duo's are alot older and slower than the i7 9xx series cpus.

but even so, its more to do with the GPU you have rather than the cpu. If you have a decentish gpu then most games will run fine even if you have a older slower cpu.

Just look at the minimum requirements for Fifa 2015. Only needs a cpu thats 7 generations old, but the GPU it needs is only 3 generations old

That's about a 5-6 year old chip from memory, and not even a high end one (IIRC I was using a core 2 quad about 5 years ago, and I wasn't an early adopter).

    I have two further questions:

    1) If I am going to use my HDTV then I guess that I do not need to change the monitor?
    2) How do you compare processes (also graphic cards) that are not the same model? For example, please see the recommended requirements for Grand Theft Auto v: http://www.systemrequirementslab.com/cyri/requirements/grand-theft-auto-v/12455/?p=r An intel core i3 is specified. I have an I7, which is superior to an I3. However, there are newer I3s i.e. I3s that are newer than my I7. How would you compare my I7 to the I3?

    1. Correct. No need to address the monitor situation if you aren't actually going to use it.

    2. http://www.cpubenchmark.net & http://www.videocardbenchmark.net

Bear in mind that gameplay will be affected by all sorts of things. I have a system with an AMD FX6350 Black, 8gb DDR3 RAM and a GTX 960 SSC OC.

This will run Star Wars Battlefront at 60fps (normally runs around 85-90fps) easily on Ultra, but struggles horribly with Ark:Survival Evolved on low settings. I suspect that it may just be something I need to tweak, but the motion sickness I get from it puts me off even starting the game!

Oh, and if you are upgrading the video card, remember to check that you have the correct power connections on the PSU. Some will require two 6 pin connectors, and not all PSU's will have these. No point spending £200 on a GPU that you can't actually use!

Edit: Hadn't realised there was a second page on the thread and that this had already been answered, but the links are still good.

Should add Fifa 15 on the PC

    Minimum Required Specifications:
    • OS: Windows V/7/8/8.1 -64-bit.
    • CPU: Intel Q6600 Core2 Quad @ 2.4Ghz.
    • RAM: 4GB.
    • Hard Drive Space Required: 15.0 GB.
    • Minimum Supported Video Cards: ATI Radeon HD 5770, NVIDIA GTX 650.
    • DirectX: 11.0.
So it is 100% the CPU thats is the issue for me.
  • When you PC is 5 years old and you are thinking of upgrading something, you will often find it more cost-effective to get a whole new PC in terms of the next 5 years. You can band-aid a PC every year to get more out of it or you can just get that newer motherboard, CPU, GPU, RAM, SSD, etc.

My PC is also over 5 years old, but still plays games at 1080p very nicely. I am just waiting for new games to stop running on it!
To err is human, but it is against company policy.
