My son had to leave his UNI for personal reasons. However, there is on overpayment of £685.00 - grant overpayment
Today we have received a letter from CCS Collect saying they have been authorised by the Student Loans Company to recover this amount and to call them at cost of 7 pence per minute!
My son is not in permanent employment and cannot afford to pay this back, which he has already advised the Student Loan Company of.
Not sure where we go from here, but he owes £15,000.00 for Uni fees and such times as he gets back on his feet, I dont think it will help if he has a CCJ in his name .
Any advice folks.

Hi,
First off, never call these people, do everything in writing only.
As he isn't working, he should write and tell them this, and say he will pay them £1 a month, until further notice, ask them to provide him with payment details so he can pay them, that's it, he tells them what will happen, not the other way around.
They can't have what he hasn't got, it's as simple as that.
They would be foolish to take him to court when he is unemployed.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards. sourcrates, many thanks for your advice which is much appreciated. My son does have a job, but it is not permanent and he is on a temporary contract week to week. He advised the student loans company of this and said all he could pay was £1 a month, but they have still passed on the debt to a debt collection agency, which I think is pretty appalling tbh
I still think £1. a month is a reasonable figure to offer CCS collect though, because such times my son is not in work I dont want a large standing order going out of his account every month which then does not get paid because he does not have the funds and he then starts to rack up bank charges.
After my son left Uni, he could not claim JSA because the benefits agency wanted to know about all grants/student loans he received whilst at Uni. So he ended up having to financially sustain himself for a number of months before he found himself a temporary job. We then received letters from the student loans company re grant over payment!!!0
