Ah, my mistake, thanks for the info.
  • I was trying to work out whether the OP has two cars at her disposal: company car and private car on finance. However, it reads like there is one car, it's on finance and required for the job. Definition of a company car is a vehicle provided by an employer of which the employee pays extra tax due to BIK (if of course the car is available for personal use).

If the OP has shelled out for a vehicle for business use, then the employer should be paying a car allowance and business mileage.

We (will) have two cars - one is my partner's financed BMW, and one will be the Merc company car.

I cannot opt for the lease car until I pass probation (until then I'm in a demonstrator vehicle, meaning I'll be paying Benefit in Kind & Company Car Tax, which is going to cost a fortune). After my probation, I get my lease car which is cheaper than having what is technically a "company car". If I were to leave the company after that, the car goes back. It is paid from my wages and isn't credit checked so therefore they cannot allow me to keep it after I terminate my contract. View it just like a company car except that we lease it to save us money.

The lease deal is 40% off the vehicle and our national insurance contributions (I'm not sure exactly what is meant by that??) are used as a deposit of approx £3k? Something like that.

While my OH is off work I'm going to ask to use the BMW - pointless paying for two cars with one sat on the drive way. It's only 6 weeks so I can't see them saying no. It's not like I'll be going to customer's houses the second I start, right?

Sky is not TV, it's broadband because otherwise we get no signal in our house. Our broadband is free, we only pay line rental.

Our Council Tax is already over 12 months.

At the moment, my husband isn't in a position to do much while off. He is literally bed/sofa bound and can barely pee without assistance. (And this isn't just man pain syndrome, he's normally the housekeeper, goes to the gym, cycling, etc. I can barely get him to sit on the sofa long enough to watch a film, haha). However, he should be feeling better soon and we have plans for him to put my mum's old stuff on eBay (we have nothing) to raise some money. Also in the two weeks before I start work I've been making Christmas cards and sold £150 worth of orders so far (minus cost of making and posting them), and I also have orders to paint two big canvasses for £150 each!

Edit: just re read your post. Lease car looks like a better option.

You can apply for housing benefit and council tax benefit whilst your OH is not working.
Tomorrow is the most important thing in life
  • Ok so we checked my partners credit file and found piles of defaulted loans, actually good news for us as it gives us enough credit to go into a DMP. So, we have just signed up for a free DMP with Stepchange.

Also applied for a bunch of benefits and grants which will help!
