O/S Daily Thread Friday 27th November 2015
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.
Morning everyone
Birthday wishes to those celebrating a birthday, hope you have a great day x
Hugs and get well wishes to those that want/need them.
DH up and gone to work. DS1 will be getting up soon. DS2 still in his pit, will wake him in a bit.
Still dark, even though we had no rain yesterday and it was quite dry and bright with sunshine at times, everywhere was still damp, looks like we should be dry most of today but then more rain from tea time tonight then on and off all weekend and some wind too!
Dinner last night was egg, bacon, chips and beans, I had jacket potato with mine, not very healthy again but didn’t want to go out and buy more food when I had something in that we could have. Tonight will be something quick and easy too.
I got the xmas cake made yesterday and the fruit for the puddings is soaking, if time allows they will be made and steamed today. I did get more admin stuff done, shredding, had a bit of a slow day, so need to get into gear today. I will be heading to the SM for 8am to do the food shopping, then once home and shopping unpacked, I’ll go to town to visit the bank. I now do have dirty washing in the basket, so will get that in the WM also. I have some beef marinating in red wine and garlic in the fridge, I’m going to add some veg to it, then try to cook it in the pressure cooker, and hopefully then can use it to make a pie or casserole, that I can freeze and use another day. I’ve never cooked meat this way in the pressure cooker, my MIL used to cook meat like this all the time, but they like their food cooked to death, so this is experimental, we’ll see.
I need to crack on with the “to do” list, and I will try to get as much done as possible, as I’m back to work on Monday and I haven’t got everything done that I wanted. I’m quite pleased though, as I was thinking I was going to go shopping yesterday just to purchase some more xmas wrapping paper and labels etc, but thought I’d check to see what I’d already got – checked and I have 2 x rolls of wrap unopened from last year, both 10 metres, and 4 others that I’ve started but there’s plenty left of all of them, now thinking about it, I remember I bought all this last year in a sale – so would have gone and spent money needlessly, the OS in me coming out there!
Have good Fridays everyone x
Keep safe and well x

Morning All
Wet and windy today so the load of washing that's in will go on the airer. Will put the DW on after tea tonight.
Went out to Glasgow after work to a 'Christmas Extravaganza' at one of the shopping centres. It was lovely, not too busy but lots of glasses of fizz and nibbles on offer. Fizz doesn't like me so I passed but did have a G&T with my meal, had a GF pizza and have to say that my tummy feels absolutely fine today. I definitely think I have a wheat intolerance so will be avoiding anything with that in. Had a good catch up with friends and didn't get home till 9.30 so nothing done in the house, will catch up with that later.
I have a parcel to post to Oz later along with a couple of cards and a birthday card and pressie to deliver.
Hugs to all in need. Take care. XX0 -
Morning nmic and all to follow. I am enjoying a bit of peace and quiet, for now, until the DGDs waken up. They were all later to bed than normal so I am hoping they sleep in a bit later! No school today, it's a teacher training day, so they are all here until DD picks them up later this afternoon. We'll both be in need of a much needed nap when they've gone!
No plans for today, we'll see what they want to do after breakfast and see what the weather has in store! Although DD did leave a big bag of Christmas cards for them all to start writing if they get bored! No problem for the 7 and 11 yo but the youngest (5) will need much help and spelling prompting!
Lunch yet to be decided but if I let them choose I'm sure sausage will be in the mix somewhere! Some gammon steaks defrosting for later for Mr TA and myself. I got them in Aldi a week or two back reduced to half price. No idea why as they were nowhere near sell by date, so I grabbed a couple of packets to ram in the freezer!
I feel marginally easier since starting the a/b's yesterday, so hoping by tomorrow I'll be back to normal. Have a good day all, ((((HUGS))))) to those wanting/needing them and take care xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Morning all
Things here are still stressful, I'm hoping for a calmer weekend, but I may be hoping in vain!
Something amusing at work yesterday, I printed off a huge document many times at a colleague's request. A couple of hours later my line manager came to speak to me about the document. She explained that I had printed the wrong document therefore causing great problems during an important meeting, colleague who requested said document was very annoyed at my inability to get her simple request printed correctly.
I thought about this for a few moments, checked my email, then said to my line manager, 'I've printed the document she requested,' and I showed her the email attachment. 'She had attached the incorrect document, somehow I don't think that is my fault!'
Even my line manager was amused as there was no way this error could be laid at my door, the document was highly confidential and I have been told many time NOT to read the documents I print.
It seems that the meeting was regarding a male student, the document I printed was for a different female student. It wouldn't have been so bad if my colleague had been a bit less vocal about my shortcomings, but she made such a fuss that she made herself look a complete twit when she then had to recant, lol.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs HesterChin up, Titus out.0 -
Morning all,
Not sure what the weather is doing as not been out yet, but it will probably involve rain !!
Off to work today 7th day in a row, I shall be very glad when tomorrow comes and I get a lay in. I have a bottle of Prosecco in the fridge with my name on for tonight !
DD has requested summer in winter chicken tonight so that's nice and easy and I will do a wash tonight too.
Have good days all xx0 -
Good morning chums damp and rather grey looking atm here in north Kent.I woke up with a watering eye and its driving me daft I think I may be getting a slight cold, perhaps its the effects of my flu jab I had during the week.History this afternoon and we are studying Louisa M Alcott.I am sitting for my DD tomorrow night as her and her OH are off on their annual date night and overnight stay. They do this every year as part of his birthday present. They have a meal out and usually the cinema or show and a stay in an hotel and come home on Sunday .its the only night of the year they get right away together without the family and its really great as they both work so hard and do long hours. So tomorrow night is 'Naughty night with Grandma,' The boys get to choose what they want to eat, and we have some sweeties and a DVD or similar and I let them stay up a bit later.:):):)
My son-in-law doesn't know but his eldest son Ben and his g/f are driving down from Uni in Norwich early on Sunday morning to see him as a surprise:):)I am so looking forward to seeing Ben and Katie again it seems ages since they went in September.
Hope everyone has a good day and avoids the madness of the shops today
Cheers JackieO xxx0 -
Morning everyone.
It's been raining most of the night and it's still going. The sky is pure cloud but with an orange / pink tinge so there must be sun behind it somewhere.
I was doing so well yesterday, hardly coughed st all, not much voice still but feeling comfortable. Then later in the evening my favourite cousin phoned from Berlin and talked for ages. He asked me loads of questions, went over family history, made plans for 2016 etc. I tried three times to say that my throat had had enough...he chuntered on. Eventually I just had to be very blunt. That worked! It left me much more coughing, blast it.
Managed to have a good enough sleep and woke at six. I've got a friend dropping in later this morning so need to get up pretty soon. The woodburner has too much ash in it so I'll vacuum a bit out, not all though.
Camelot - your Glasgow evening sounds fab. BG I guess?
I hope everyone has a good day.0 -
Good Morning everyone, drizzly and dismal again here today but that's OK because wild horses wouldn't drag me out anywhere out of the village today with the Black Friday nonsense going on everywhere, tomorrow is the day I'll do the shopping!
He Who Knows had a slip yesterday when he was dog walking and now has a sore knee, back and shoulder, think he's just wrenched things but he's out with her again and has taken pain killers, poor lad. Interesting afternoon lined up as we're going along to the inaugural meeting for U3A in the church hall to see what is on offer and more importantly when you live in a smaller community who is there too and to see if we could survive in the groups that form, we'll see but it would be nice to have something stimulating once in a while.
Have yourselves a good day everyone, Lyn xxx.0 -
Morning everyone,
Bit of a late start for me today, didn't sleep very well last night so went back to bed after feeding the girls, my DOH took them out alone but they are good dogs so no problem.
Another one here who will not be going far today, we need some fruit and veg so will pop out to the farm shop as doubt they will have been infected by the BF epidemic
Looks like we are set for a bit of a rainy old day so apart from this bit of shopping and going over to the yard to see my boy intend to have a quiet day at home, will let the WM do most of today's chores.
Take care everyone and have a good day whatever you are up to x0 -
Morning all

its dd1s birthday today , she is in Rome with her bf atm sounds like she is having a great birthday :T
Need to do some washing today and attack mount ironmore
Have a lovely day everyone xx0 -
Good morning everyone :hello:
I'm just sat here with a welcome cuppa made by my lovely DD12. She and her sisters are all off school today as its a teacher training day too. They are planning to go off Christmas shopping this afternoon, rather them than me.
I am waiting for a Tesco delivery and once it's put away I have some tidying and sorting to do before we put the decorations up tomorrow. The grand children will be coming round to 'help' so that will be fun. They want to sleep over as well which will be lovely as we haven't seen much of them this week.
I have a new diary to fill out this afternoon. I've treated myself to the Terry Pratchett one so I am quite looking forward to reading all the comments in it. I still have more knitting to do as well and I have the new Hairy Bikers autobiography to read on my Kindle. I think I am going to need a longer day :rotfl::rotfl:.
I think we might have a sneaky takeaway for tea so I haven't got anything out to defrost yet. I must ask the girls to get some money out of the bank for me too.
Oh Hester your tale did make me laugh, people are so quick to blame everyone else for their mistakes, glad you were able to prove your side of the story.
TA and Gers, glad you are both on the mend as well x
Well, I hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, even if it is spending your money on Black Friday, take care xx0
