Nobody is perfect, except me of course
Please note: my opinions are mine alone, nobody asked me to have them, obliged me to have them or even coerced me to have them, they are mine but they are free, so if you want to share them I will not charge you for it!

I seem to recall there have been one or two threads on this subject on the 'Over 50s Money Saving' forum.0

I was watching a programme on Tv last week where they went into where your money went when you paid for a funeral, then compared to doing a DIY one, starting with buying a coffin online and arranging either a cremation or burial, and the Diy alternative was something like a third of the cost.Liverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,
What it may grow to in time, I know not what.

Just to be clear, Sam, I was just trying to help the OP with their question; I agree with you and would never recommend paying into a 'funeral plan', but I guess they might suit some people's circumstances.0

My parents bought pre-paid funeral plans - a lump sum that was paid off over two years, not an '£x every month until you die' rip-off.
They chose to do this because they were receiving means tested benefits. At the time, they were only allowed £6k in savings and paying for the first funeral would have greatly reduced the savings left for the survivor.
If this hadn't been the case, I don't think they would have bothered.
As it was, they lived a good few years after paying for the funeral and there was a reasonable saving on the difference between what they paid and what we would have had to pay at the time of their deaths.0
