Got new kitten but she's not eating...

  • My cat drinks from the water feature in our garden. I give her fresh water in her bowl but she prefers to drink out a water feature which has algae lying in the bottom of it!! And she also drinks from the toilet ... the dirty midden so we need to be careful what we use cleaning wise in the toilet and keep the lid down.

We went away for the night once and when we got back he was already waiting. He was drinking from the tap for about 5mins. We can't leave him long now because we know he would just go without water than share a bowl with the others.

You can get water fountain type thingies for cats.. just google cat water fountain
Mine is another mug/glass drinker - there's nothing worse than waking up in the middle of the night and hearing 'slurp slurp slurp' and realising that the cat has her face in your glass of water...:rotfl:

Been There! But it's even worse waking up in the morning and thinking you surely didn't drink that much overnight ....and then ....did you drink before or after the cat ?

I now use an empty guacamole plastic container on top of my pint glass - Bailey cat can't seem to get that off (although he tries!)

A previous cat used to drink from the loo; my current cats never drink from their water bowl and drink from puddles, bird baths, glasses, cups and will even express interest in cups of tea.

Our little boy is a naughty one for drinking. I keep finding muddy paw prints in the loo from when I forget to put the lid down. He also drinks bath water that is left in the crinkly bits of the bath when you have finished and drained all the water out. He drinks rain water from watering cans as well. Just never drinks the water we put down for him. His little sister is much better though.

As for OPs worries, remember, your kitten will have a tummy the size of a walnut at the moment, so will only eat tiny amounts.

We bought one of these for our girly as she is another mug/glass/toilet drinker and she absolutely loves it. However, I have read of other people buying them and their cat just won't take to it so I would see if there are any on Freecycle first if you do decide to get one :)

Current cats drink anywhere but their water bowl!

Puddles, bird bath, watering can, ask for the tap to be turned on in the bath!:confused:
