  • When you say you cook meals in the evening, is that for everyone, or just you and your OH? Are all your kids having hot meals in school?
I don't think kids really need two proper cooked meals a day, if they have had a proper school dinner then you could surely get away with a much lighter evening meal - if not sandwiches then something like soup, or beans/scrambled egg on toast.
If you are paying twice to feed the kids a hot meal that could be a big saving.
If you like all eating a hot meal together as a family in the evening, then why not do packed lunches for school instead?
Good luck, your plan sounds good and I'm sure you can make lots of savings on the way!
  • Hi thrifty.

I apologise if this has been covered in another post, I haven't spotted it! But can you not transfer some of this debt to an interest free or low interest credit card?

There are also credit cards that charge a relatively low fee for what is effectively a cash advance that you may be able to use to pay off your high interest loan/s. I. You can't normally pay off a loan with another form of credit, ie a credit card. I paid off a car loan a couple of months ago at an interest rate of 5.9% using a 24 month interest free card - the initial cost of the 'cash advance' was 1.9%.

This all depends on your credit rating and any loan penalties but it's worth looking at.

    Hey Thrify,

Hope everything is okay! Just remember this isnt a race to clear debt quicker. Slow and steady wins the race.
