Are most comps gender fixed?

Options
Hi all,

Only been doing comps for a few weeks mainly entering Twitter or fb comps for very random items however not won a bean. I guess it's how it is but have also noticed there seem to be a lot more female winners if not all.

I do get the simple retweet comps have thousands of entrants so slim margins but see same people winning lots

no win for me in 2years im female
  • Definitely not gender fixed. I'm Male.

I'm an on/off comper - play a few here and there for typically the prizes i want in life.

Have won a few prizes over time this year none - to name a few iPad, Asus Transformer Tablet, Mobile Phone, etc.

We'd all love to win a £60K +£10K of gadgets from the ITV but i see the chances as very low however i still enter with the philosophy of you have to be in it to win it. I've always tried extra hard to win a car for the family or a Van for my daily work - no luck as yet but perseverance will help me hopefully.

Best of luck theres alot of comping to be had over the Xmas Period.

I enter my wifes details for obviously female type prizes, especially on womens websites. Not sure if it makes a difference though.
  • Thanks that's what I thought as yes some comps are perfume etc which I enter for my wife and think do they discount men's entries
  • I think generally there are more female compers than male compers, so that would explain why there might be more female winners, if for example, a competition has 2000 entries, 1500 of them will probably be female so the females, as a sex, have better odds.

Without trying to be sexist, there are more "stay at home moms" than "stay at home dads" and I suppose a lot of those people use comping to pass a bit of time, supplement their own personal income when the kids are at school etc.
  • Definitely not fixed. Three of the most successful compers I know are male, but just like the successful female compers, they enter LOADS of competitions, and work hard on the effort competitions which have fewer entrants. There are way more female compers than male, like sleepyjones says, but I think the ratio is even higher women to men - more like 9 out of 10 compers.

Have faith, comps aren't generally gender fixed, but really the best way to win is to comp smarter - go for things you actually want, and aim for effort comps or entry methods that have fewer entrants like pinterest and instagram. Good luck!
