How much do you spend on each of your kids at Yule/Xmas.

Just wondering how much is your limit that you spend on your kids at Yule/Xmas?
I am thinking between £75-£100
My son is 5 my daughter 11.
I don't want to go over the board like i did when my daughter was young, but buy them things they will value, plus at the same time take away from the commercial side of Xmas, and use the holiday as a time to do things together, and celebrate the season.
On birthdays i spend no more than £50 on each.

I spend way too much. Last year I spent about £500 on my dd's (4 & 8). This year I am mega cutting down.0

We have five to buy for so I limit it to £75 and then they get something joint that usually works about about £100. I am sad enough to start in the jan sales in order to cover it ...0

About £400 each last year, probably less this year because last year was a lot of bigger gifts, DS2s remote control car fo racing with was £150 with the stuff he needed to go with it. :rotfl: actually I spent more on my Dad last year than my kids but he knows that was a one off treat. Has been well over that when they got computers one year etc. This year going for £200-£300 ish each but as every year will include clothes, books etc. I don't really go off value, just that they get some of the things they want and are happy. They don't get treats through the year. We don't buy alcohol etc at Christmas so of course I spend less on other things. One day I might be more organised...........
GC: £200

looking at the price of toys i am now thinking £75.
I always buy them bits jointly, like PS2 games.0 -
Hi
I'm from a family of 10 and I hated it. Now, 40 years later I'm the mother of 1 and I make up for all my sad Christmases. One year, aged c14 I remember getting a blouse and it smelled of perfume! Never forgot it.
One thing I will say though is I just don't know when to stop. I also feel as though I've spoiled it for myself and I can't get out of all the spending. Each year I wonder/worry how to better the last. I believe I spent c£700 on my boy last Christmas, but in my defence those DS games are TINY! I really want him to understand the value of money so I know I'm shooting myself in the foot. Also, peer pressure is huge these days too. Mostly though I just thank God that I can give him these things. My mum must have hated that time of year. Imagine buying for 10 kids!Grocery Challenge M: £450/£425.08 A: £400/£.May -£400/£361 June £380/£230 (pages 18 & 27 explain)0 -

yes mum had 9. But She always scrimped and saved all year to get us toys, we always got one main gift, then a stocking full of 50p stuff, satsuma's and apple and a selection box. I loved the smell of Christmas morning. I want my kids to have that feeling. 5 years or so ago i noticed that they were getting so much not just from me, but the rest of my family, i told everyone to tone it down. I want them to understand the value of money too, and to tell you the truth they did not bat an eyelid when i changed everything, they actually respected their toys a lot more and played with them, previous years they had too much, and often when i would tidy their rooms i would find gifts still in their original box un - opened.0 -
hi
my ds is 14 and dd is 12 so its usually about 150.00 each for birthdays and 350.00 each at christmas although i usually spend a bit more on each as i look at the stuff i have bought and it never seems enough.0 -
I spend waaaaaaaaaay to much on my DS, who is 9. Last year, it was about £400, but added to that his Dad spends about the same on him, then he gets another couple of hundred spent on him from grandparents and other relatives/friends.
This year, I'm really gonna bring it down, and shop as frugally as possible (via quidco for as much as possible too:rotfl: ). Trouble is, as they get older, things are more expensive and smaller in size (i.e. ps2 games) so you tend to spend more cos it doesn't look much!GOD BLESS DURAN DURAN
