Help needed to find a new job quickly!

In June this year, I was facing redundancy in my job as a care assistant at a day care centre for dementia sufferers with the county council ( the council were closing us down) As we are already on a DMP, I was desperate for another job and applied and got a job in an admin position, still within the council but a totally different department. It was full time and I had only been used to working part time but I thought I could cope. The job I had been made redundant from was such a lovely job and I had such a good work/life balance.
I started at beginning of October I was stressed from the first couple of days and after 6 weeks I went down with nasty throat virus and lost my voice. Had a couple of days off as I was sure it was the job stress that had lowered my immune system and made me bad and now the GP has signed me off for 4 weeks with anxiety/stress. I haven't been sleeping and look terrible, want to cry all the time and just feel like I need my life back. The job is way too much for me and I am ashamed by the fact that I can't cope, it just is not what I thought it would be and also the full time is way too much. I spoke to my line managers before I was sick and they were no help at all to be honest.
My manger has now phoned me today to say she needs to have a chat with me on Friday and wants me to meet her in a coffee shop.
I am desperately trying to find another job, part time but so far having no luck. Have applied for several cleaning jobs, registered on websites etc but so far no body has even replied. I have poster up in local village. There are care assistant jobs going in care homes, but I am not wanting the weekend and evening shifts. I am nearly 59 and just need part time, weekday hours now, like I had at the day centre.

Sorry for the waffle and not sure how any of you can help, but if you have any ideas....please let me know.

  • Why not sign on at a care agency? You can then choose which hours you work and where you work. You could just do weekday mornings if you wanted but you might find you're available for the odd evening shift or weekend shift. They often pay weekly so when you need more money you do more shifts and if you want a rest you don't do any. It's also a good way of looking around at different places you might like to work at.

Every care agency I have come across so far is either zero hours contract or they want you to work alternate weekends. If I could get something weekday mornings only on a permanent contract, I would definitely go for it.

  • Be kind to yourself in these times, it goes quiet around this time especially for part time in care with people going into rest bite.
If you know it's not for you don't cling to a job you feel way out of depth, there will be others.
I'm completely other way in that I've been in a job I feel confident in more than I ever have and then after battling keeping quiet about sore throat and everything inbetween then get to hear what the boss really thinks so certainly goes to show you it just isn't worthy of the effort. This is after 4 weeks of being in the role with nothing said previously so I'm beginning to rack my brains as to whether some of the people above me have bi-polar with the changes of mood honestly.

I thought about the Samaritans just yesterday and today, but then they probably can't give the answers, so going on a drive was the next thing as my mind become fixated.

Could you do home working? answering calls that type of thing right now? Here is a vote it will be better after Christmas x

Thanks for that...yes I would love to do some sort of homeworking. I did work for a while as a homeworking travel advisor, but then they got rid of us all and it was all self employed and I wasn't making enough money, which is why I went into care....just to get a 2nd redundancy in 3 years....LOL
