You need to get them free - with the Blu-Ray war, this might be the next Betamax.Time is an illusion - lunch time doubly so.0

sony made the betamax, which was better than vhs but failed.
sony makes blue-ray which is better than hd dvd but more expensive.
will history repeat?:beer:0 -
Warning ! - This HD DVD player is 1080i NOT 1080p0

True, because the !!!!!! industry adopted VHS.sony made the betamax, which was better than vhs but failed.
Really? Very little in it as far as I can tell.sony makes blue-ray which is better than hd dvd but more expensive.
History is already repeating itself in that people aren't bothering with either format whilst their proponents squabble.will history repeat?Time is an illusion - lunch time doubly so.0 -

Blue ray players were £800 - £900 when first released, while hd were £500. (sony did have problems producing the machine, hence the fiasco with the ps3 release date)
I'm not saying that hd will win, (it could go either way) but i was just pointing out that it's not a given that hd will be the one that goes the way of betamax, since the better of the 2 machines has failed in the past.
I do agree however that most people will wait and see which comes out on top before buying, which in itself will probably prolong the war. Possibly cheap upscaling dvd is the best bet at the moment:beer:0 -

History not really repeating itself is it? People were not holding back when vcr's came out since they were buying them to record tv programs for the first time ever - massive rush to get them at the start. Different situation this time, not designed to record, only for movies, and consumer are much more savvy about technology today.:beer:0
