Best customer service for faulty goods(Xbox 360)?

Hi, I originally ordered my son's (Core) XBOX 360 from Great Universal, purely because with discounts codes etc, it bought the price down.

However, I have just had to return the second console, as it too went faulty within a short period of time.

I have had an absolute nightmare with Great Universal, and certainly do not want to deal with them a potential third time.

Can anyone recommend a high street store, where, if the console fails within 12 months, I can simply walk in & exchange for a new one?

Thank you

    No.
The only place that has any legal responsibility to sort your problem is great universal. They should also be your only point of call sa you bought it from them it is their responsibilty to provide you with a working console that wont fail.

The actuall fault is down to a manufacturing flaw lots of xboxes fail due to it and most retailers direct people to deal with Microsoft direct as they collect replace with a reconditioned xbox and return it to you normally within 2 weeks. Microsoft have fixed the problem with a redesign of the cooling in the console and these are slowly making their way on to the UK market the chance of getting on from microsoft is unknown but the same is from retailers but I think you have more chance from a retailer.
  • you could always return the one to GU as faulty and get your money back then re-buy from GAME (they're one of my fav's on the high st)

i have just sent my XBox back to MS to get repaired, if you have the 3 red ring of death the warrenty is extended to 3 years.

Hi, that's what I am trying to do at moment, just waiting for GUS to refund & then hopefully will purchase from high street.

    Will probably goto Game.

It is the 3 red lights that causing the problem, just not happy about dealing with MS and getting someone else's recon console when mine is still under 12 months old!

Exactly! Every time I deal with GUS, they try & fob me off with contacting MS instead, until I spout off about Sale of Goods act etc, and then they listen, but it is so slow trying to get through to them, even though I have the name of a Supervisor I spoke to last time, apparently, they can't transfer calls between call centres, and no-one, not even managers, have direct numbers!

Anyway, a huge e-mail complaint has been sent, along with the console, just waiting for refund now.
  • I'm not sure if you can get your money back after 6 months. You can certainly ask for (and get) a free repair or a replacement for up to two years after purchase under the EU directive 99/44/EC on the Sale of Consumers Goods if the goods can reasonably be expected to last that long. The Xbox 360 would certainly come within that category.

I bought an Xbox 360 for my son from Littlewoods catalogue last year and it had the 'Three Rings of Death' problem. I didn't bother going thru Littlewoods but got the console repaired straight from Microsoft (as that's what Littlewoods would do anyway). And my son was desperate to get it back! MS picked up the console and had delivered a replacement in around three days! Sure it was a reconditioned one, but it is still working OK.

My brother's Xbox 360 had a continual fault with his DVD drive and it kept crashing at odd intervals. His console was about a year and a half old but MS still agreed to repair it FOC. He did actually get the same unit back but they took around two weeks this time to fix it. He says they replaced the motherboard, the DVD drive and gave him a new fascia plate as his old one had a crack. He says MS extended the warranty on his unit to three years for no charge and to keep faith with their customers after so many consoles have hardware problems.

I must admit the service we've had from MS has been excellent. No complaints here. The telephone support has been timely and knowledgeable. I was quite pleasantly surprised. But maybe I've just been lucky.

second hand from gamestation - if it goes wrong within 12 months they replace on the spot and if its not your harddrive they will let you keep that part so you dont lose your saved games etc. Im in Ramsgate and have had nothing but fab service from them, our 360 static shocked one of the games and they replaced that as well even though the game was not from them
  • Thanks for info VIJ

I was looking at the used ones in Game, but they were almost as expensive as brand new!

Anyway, still waiting for my refund from GUS, the console was collected almost 3 weeks ago by them, but they they have still not refunded, apparently it takes upto 28 days for them to re-credit my account!

Once I've got my money back, I will probably buy from Argos, they were doing a deal for £179 with 2 free games, and, in the past, when I've taken stuff back to them, I've never had a problem with exchange/refund.
